I have a 2TB Samsung HDD for storage in my newly set up OpenMediaVault NAS, and it seems it cannot stay active for more than a few seconds. I get the access delay, whine and click that I associate with spin-up just about every time the drive is accessed. The drive is a couple of years old and has worked fine in a FreeNAS build since new.

The first thing I tried was to ensure all the spin down power saving settings in OMV were disabled.

I can still read and write to the drive, but is it near death? I'm always backed up and ready for death, but would rather not have to acquire a new HDD. Any ideas would be most welcome. Thanks!

Whine & click sounds like it's on it's way out.

Thanks both for your replies. I swapped the drive out last night.
