Hi guys, I'm just about to pull the trigger on a Samsung 8000 series 3D tv and the retailer is trying his best to sell me an £80 hdmi cable, the reason being that with 3D, the cable has to be a 'special one' as if a normal one is used it will not work properly! Is there any truth in this or is it the usual sales 'bs'? look forward to hearing your views. Dave
Sounds like bull to me. Just looked through the specs etc on the samsung website and I see no mention of a special cable requirement. Could be wrong though.
The only thing you need for 3D is a HDMI 1.4/1.4a compliant cable. But that is not £80, more like £10 max. With all features, including Ethernet support. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HDMI#Versions
You just need any 1.4 HDMI cable (or any High Speed HDMI cable). Do not buy the £80 - that will be a complete ripoff. You can buy 1.4 cables for much much cheaper all over the internet, like this one for £4.99: http://www.amazon.co.uk/AmazonBasics-High-Speed-HDMI-Cable-Ethernet/dp/B003L1ZYYM
Thanks for the quick reply mate, hmmmmm, I get that awfull feeling you get when you know your about to get done! £80 squid for a hdmi cable?
Thanks lads.........Bloody Currys! I'm gonna sort me a salesman out now!.........And then tell him i'm buying it somewhere else! Again thanks for the help! Dave
Just make sure the cable you buy is the correct length, and of course double check in the product description that it supports 3D. Other than that, don't get ripped off by Currys' saleman .
Welcome to the world of retail stores. Retail store means they will try to sell expensive cables to anyone. It is a store policy, not a decision of that specific salesman. Either he knows that he is "lying" but accepts the store policy; or he has no idea and just says what he was told ("sell those cables, they are better and we got huge margin on them as well").
Yup, smells like typical retail. Unfortunately, the salesman has targets he has to meet if he wants to keep his job. The way the industry is breeds this kind of crap and everyone turns to the internet instead.
Currys tried to sell me a £40 hdmi cable telling me i needed it for 3D, i told them if they did not give me it for free then i would shop elsewhere, funny enough they gave it to me
I find no faults with my 99p purchase from flea bay, brand new and no faults, but i am not a perfectionist
Well I got me a new telly, 46inch, 3D, all the bells and whistles and guess what.......After a stand up, almost argument, the bloody sales manager had the nerve to say that 'generaly customers dont understand electronics, and that his staff where fully trained but on this exception he would throw in the cable free of charge because I would probably be returning the tv because the 3D wasn't working correctly' !!!! Anyway, a result, thanks for the help lads All the best...........Dave.
The only thing curry's staff are fully trained on is telling lies, i once bought a rear projection tv and was told by the sales woman that i should take out extra warranty because if the tube went it would be very expensive to repair, when i told her the tv had no tube she just stared at me with a vaccant look on her dopey face, i would like to say that i once worked for currys and saw first hand the bs they spout.
