    I'm doing a little project, but I need to know the poles on a standard headphone jack...

    Can anyone tell me which is ground, left and right?

    I haven't got a spare set I can pull apart to work it out myself. :(

    Ta.

    End of Flame

    I didn't copy anyones ID, on this of any board. Just do a web search for fishthecat if you're interested in what else I've been up to.

    Anyway, Does anyone know where I can get a Stereo MiniJack wiring diagram?

    I don't know how standard the jacks are, but the plugs are all the same. The tip is Left, the middle is Right, and the base is Ground. If you take an unwired plug and plug it into the jack, you could use a continuity tester to figure it out. Otherwise, it depends on who makes the jack. Looking at this jack I have here, holding it pins-up with the hole facing me, the left pins are left, the right pins are right, and the pins closest to the hole are ground. Thats the flat-type jack, looking at this other kind I have here, a boxy jack with a pin sticking out the top and two coming out the back, the pin stick out of the top is ground, the top pin in the back is right, and the bottom pin in the back is left. If my webserver was working I could give you some sort of diagram of what I'm looking at.. sorry :sigh:

    So you think it's:

    <=:=:=={@@@@------wire

    left right grnd

    Ascii minijack. :rolleyes: Coo.

    Mono jacks have a tip, and one 'sleeve'
    Stereo jack have a tip, and two 'sleeves',

    so wouln't the ground be the tip as it's a common contact?

    Well, if by tip you mean this part: <-- then no. Generaly speaking, whichever part has the most contact area is usually the ground, being this <==|==||ground. The metal ring around the jack will make contact with the large base of the plug, grounding it... yeah, that sounds about right.
