Them long days in a workshop with nothing to do when you remember that need for something to hold you headphones. 1/2 stainless steel barrel nipple TIG welded to a 1" 1/4 - 2 1/2 reducer Behind that is a 18mm stainless steel rod with a 1/2 barrel nipple drilled out and a small M8 nut welded on with a simple T bar thread to lock in place. and a 2" U bolt to act as a cradle. The above socket and Reducer added to 180 x 180 x 6mm stainless plate. 18mm pole added in and fully welded when set to plumb. Some little feet added out of M12 counter sunk screws and nuts. Added a smaller 1" U bolt for a cable holder. One of them things that when it says use gloves and eye protection YOU do Let it do its magic for 30 mins or so. Little bit of hot water washing up liquid and a Brillo Pad and a hose pipe all shiny The finished article. All done.
considering what I do for a living and what's laying about in the work shop this is small and pathetic but yes it is a bit over kill but was free lol
It could just be me, but I always find welding very beautiful to look at. I love the pattern that it the seal makes.
It's basically a stick with a hook to hold headphones. I'm not sure how it could be less engineered. Now, if he had added pneumatic risers, LEDs, and some kind of microcomputer controlled mechanism to do who-knows-what, then yes it would be over engineered. Awesome, yes, but over engineered. As it is, it's a simple yet functional design. I like it.
