What headphones do you members, so highly prestiged, use? I'm looking for a new pair, though I don't want to drop a ton buying them. I don't care about wireless, for me those are usless, especially because I would use the new pair with my mp3 player. I know sannheiser is well liked, and I've heard good things about altec lansing and sony. I prefer the style that either goes behind your head or hangs on your ear, by clip or an 'in-ear' design. Personally I want strong sound and great clarity, though I don't know why anyone would not. The headphones ability to get very loud is not of great important, I would prefer to keep my hearing

What headphones/companies/stores [sites] do you reccommend?

I currently use a pair of Sony D66 Eggos that I had to buy from a Japanese import company called Audiocubes. Great headphones. The best resource by far on the intarweb is head-fi.org. Very knowledgeable and helpful people there. :thumb:

Sennheiser HD 477 all the way.
i used to be a sony only man till i used these, got a pair the same day. well worth the money. i could hear parts of songs i couldnt hear with my sony's with the sennheiser's. They are very clear, but not the smallest headphones around :) but you should put that aside as the music is more important.

    also goto:
http://www.headphone.com/layout.php i know they are a shop but they have loads of info for all the headphones they sell

    Try the Koss PortaPro 2.

    $20 at www.circuitcity.com , free shipping.

I bought these a few days ago...

Not as good as my V6s, but perfect for starting off or as a gift. The bass on thePortaPros is very noticeable and in-your-face, wheres the V6 bass is far tighter and deeper. The mids and the highs were recessed on the Portapro. However, i've heard that cutting a nickel-sized hole in the earpad will tame the bass and let out the mids and highs.

Of course, here's Altrons' Big List of Reccomended Cans

But definetly try out Grados before you buy.

Grado and Sennheiser are at oppisite extremes. Therefore, they definetly require an audition, because they sound so different.

    Sennheiser House Sound:
    Very laid back, "3rd row"
    Large and open
    Bass not great, midrange pronounced.

    Grado House Sound:
Very up front, you're standing on the stage
    Small and open
    Bass very good, trebles bright.

Sennheisers surround your ears and are tight "vice grip" grados are on your ears and very loose. People either love or hate how they fit.
