there have been a lot of "hello" threads recently, many getting closed soon after.

how about a sticky where the new person pops in and says hi, maybe a little personal info, etc.?

Can't see it happening, sounds to much like a spam trap to me.

Wouldn't that be just a waste of bandwidth? Of some of the forums i go on many people do a 'my first post' thread and its just so annoying. Most people will tend to ignore it anyway.

Some places have an "Hello" forum, again most only get 1 or 2 replies, half of those from a mod. A GD post is nice and convenient to add some spam (or give a friendly welcome to a new member). Most are a fair mix, so the n00b doesn't feel ignored.

Pity is the slobbering when said new member is female.

    *they're :worried:

Hello threads do become a bit annoying, but people ignore the big For Sale sticky, so what make's you think they won't ignore this?
