Hello, im pretty new to oc'ing, ive been using a software-based proggie for a long time with my GA-8KNXP mobo, but its not the greatest and you have to reset it everytime you reboot... SOOOOOO ive decided to move on to the bios..

what i found there was scary

I remember that you have to change the frequency , ir if you change it to 205 it will (0bviously) raise your CPU speed, but im not sure about the AGP/PCI/SRC.

WTF is that for? Can you oc the bus without touching the voltage and ACP/PCI controls? THANKS. Here are some pics of my bios

It means you can lock your AGP and PCI ports to the stock speed, so when you increase the system bus, they aren't increased with it. This prevents problems caused by running your graphics card and/or hard drives too fast, giving you problems. Lock it to 33/66/100. THen up your FSB small steps at a time until you run into problems... then back it off a little. Run a test like Prime95 to see if it's stable. If not.. back off some more.

Also.. you may need to increase your CPU and RAM voltage... well.. you WILL need to eventually. Once you strt to increase CPU voltage.. keep an eye on your temps.

Also: Read the Overclocking FAQ sticky... very, very helpful!

    ok thanks alot

but so you need to keep the AGP/PCI/SRC locked?

When do you need to start increasing your voltages?

Hmm mebe this is in the sticky, im heading over there rght now.

when it is unstable or will not boot

    Ben

edit:: you have a bottle neck with you ram as it is running at 133mhz*2=266 so to be in sink you need it to be at 200*2=400. what ram do you have at the moment.

I'd keep it locked, yes. SOme graphics cards can handle higher bus speeds.. some cant. Mine gives me trouble around 75MHz. Most cards are OK up to around that... some go higher. If you're only going to clock it lightly there may be no need to lock it... but for peace of mind, and to elliminate any problems... I'd lock it. Once you're more confident about what you're doing you can find out what speed your AGP card craps out and lock it to just a little lower than that, but at this stage... 33/66 until you get your CPU stable.

Yes... the FAQ really is very helpful, and includes pretty much everything you'll need to know. Also... read the Benchmarking threads, especially the Super-Pi one.

[edit] can't remember if your board has SATA or not... if so, SATA drives can become corrupt at high PCI speeds... IDE drives are more tolerant. Back up info before O/Cing.

did you use a TFT to take those screen shots???

sory i wondered how you did it without the picture looking funy like it does when you take a pic of a CRT, you can see the refresh of the screen

A slow shutter speed will get rid of the refresh bars and lines you see on a CRT photo. 1/15th or lower usually.
