Does anyone know what is entailed to convert a AC pump like the Hydor L30 or an Eheim to DC so that I can plug it into my powers supply? I've googled my little heart out and got nada. Maybe someones done it or has the expertise to know what's involved if it's even possible. Thanks in advance.

Wouldnt work without a power inverter. Way too much money and not efficient.
Just buy a 12v pump and save money/time/energy. Its just not worth doing.

It isnt really possible to do. The controllers for the motors are different.

My question is why do you want to do this?
do you just wnat the pump to turn on with the computer?

If thats the case just buy a relay kit. It will wire into your pump, you then wire a connector to your PSU to tell the relay to turn on, and then you have a plug going form the wall to the relay to power the pump... (sounds a lot more complicated then it is.) when the computer turns on the pump will start and when the computer is turned off the pump will stop.

If your up for a bit of DIY you can make your own pump relay. All you need is a 12v relay, some solder, soldering iron, insulating tape and a molex plug. I had everything apart from the relay when i made mine and cost me £1.50 :D

The reason I wanted to convert the pump was a) to have it power on with the pc and b) to clean up the wiring and get rid of the extra power cable leaving the back of the pc. But what you've all advised is sound. I think I'll try my hand at making my own realy. Anyone got a good guide?
