    Hi All,
I'm putting together a promo and movie for a project I worked on last year and need help putting together a soundtrack. Its a non-commercial project run out of a school so all Creative Commons licenses should apply. As per the title, I need to find some appropriate (and good quality) Creative Commons music to use. I've carried out a cursory search and found a few artists (I liked Josh Woodward's 'The Dreamers' http://www.joshwoodward.com/song/thedreamers) but I need several songs and a couple more songs with a energising/faster beat would be great. I'll be grateful for any help you can offer.

Edit: MOVIES REMOVED AND AWAITING ARTIST APPROVAL

Any suggestions about editing will also be taken onboard (bear in mind that these are just 1st drafts and both have been made in 1080p and then reduced to 720p for youtube).

    Thanks in advance!

Youtube > royalty free music = loads of videos showing where to find stuff of all genres on royalty free sites and channels, all perfectly legit and not just 'borrowing' music for free.

@Votick - Thanks for the suggestions!

@SuicideNeil - That was great advice and we've now got the music we wanted thanks to you! I've checked the CC licenses to make sure we are crediting artists correctly (this is our first time using CC music on a big video) and I've also contacted the artists before we launch the finished video.

As soon as we have permission I'll release the finished product here. Thanks for all of your help!

If the movie is for educational purposes doesn't this mean you can use any copywrited music for free?

@fuus - if the audience was only teachers and pupils this would be fine but as we allow more people to watch our videos (we use them as promotional material for the project and the team memers like to post copies on social media) the educational exemption does not apply.

I know a lot of people use this guy's stuff.
It's all free to use for whatever as long as you credit him.

Archive.org has a pretty large collection of music that spans a number of genres. As with anything, caveat emptor applies: a lot of the music you'll find there is public domain, but sometimes you'll find music that is identified as public domain but is obviously not.

The music selection at Archive.org can be hit or miss. It might not be what you're looking for, but it's at least another resource you can check.

@Pliqu3011 - This collection seems to be bottomless (lots of possible background stuff for mini movies), thanks!

@supermonkey - Thanks, its going to take a while to search this collections as it is an absolute horde of tracks covering a broad number of subjects, not just music - I'll bet there are some real gems in there.

Thank you to everyone who has replied, I'm building up a folder of very useful bookmarks!

Okay, the video release may take a little longer than planned. No problem with the artists so far but one of their representatives is causing a royal headache for us all; TuneCore.
They have raised an automatic dispute over us using music which is Creative Commons (We've correctly credited the artist in both the video credits and in the description). The license doesn't have an 'ND' attribute and we're not trying to monetize our content so this seems to be a robotic rubber stamp applied regardless to any video which features the track. We've contacted the artist concerned (we've checked the License carefully and we've fufilled all aspects of it) in the hope of getting this resolved quickly. I'll update you all when I know more.

We're so close to being able to release, one more edit to go. One of the publicity team has worked up a trailer for advertising the programme itself (watch in 1080p if you can):

    Finally released this morning:

Thank you for all the suggestions of places to get music, we found a lot of great tracks on Jamendo and the Free Music Archive (we've added soundtracks to several pieces of video now).
