    I've got a SLIGHT problem.

The computer crashed and when i restarted the monitor would not come out of standby. I could take the computer back to novatech, but i may have voided the warrenty! I've been told that it could be to do with the gfx card (GeForce FX5200). I don't know what to do :(

that really isnt enough information to pinpoint any kind of problem
there are plenty of thins that it *could* be (like 1000s of things)
what were you doing when it crashed?
how did you void the waranty?
to figure out what is wrong you need to give all of the information you can regarding the problem and how it happened

All i was doing at the time was listening to sum music (real player) i had 2 maybe 3 internet explorer windows up, kazaa lite and also msn messenger.

The warrenty, ive drilled 4 holes in the steel frame.
The computer jus crashed. I turned it off, holding the power button, as you do. Turned it back on and it started to boot but nothing came up on the screen and it won't come out of standby. tried a monitor that doesnt have a standby and it still won't show anything on the screen.
Hope that helps to sort out the problem

there will be a jumper on your mainboard that you have to short to reset the bios, when the system is off you need to move the jumper the "clear cmos" position and then sometimes turn it on and sometimes not, it all depends on the motherboard
alternatively you can take out the battery for a bit, usually a minute or so is enough to clear it but someimes longer can be needed

this *should* sort everything out if it is a configuration problem, but won't do a thing if there is something physically damaged

are there any strange beeps at all when you try to turn it on?

No there are no strange beeps, where abouts would the jumper be. I don't really wanna mess with the mobo incase i do do anything that i will regret. Any way i would rather take the battery out but what can happen if you do??

well you have to do one or the other to reset the bios
as for where on the motherboard is it? well, how long is a piece of string?
if you have a manual for your motherboard then look in it for how to clear the bios or cmos. there usually is a "map" of the motherboard in the manual which lists and diagrams everything on it and there should be a clear cmos jumper listed on there somewhere.

if you dont have a manual you need to find out the make and model of the board, which will be on it somewhere, and have a peek on the manufacturer's site to see which jumper it is to reset.

on most boards i have used the jumer is normally in the bottom right quarter of the motherboard, if you were looking at it in a standard tower, usually somewhere near the battery and the southbridge (the biggest chip on the motherboard without a heatsink)

the problem may not be the graphics card at all, it could be any number of things

does your PC start up? like do you hear the hard drives spin up and access and windows load, ie the windows sounds?

Ok, my computer did exactly the same to me again, died and i couldnt revie the screen. Well i pulled the gfx card out a few times and thought i reset the bios last time and it worked again.

So could there be a fault in the bios??

If you cleared cmos by pulling out the battery or by moving the cmos jumper most likely it isnt bios. Do you have onboard video of any kind? If you do i would suggest booting your system w/o your Gfx card in and see if it works. If you dont have on board video, or another gfx card you could try boot it up w/o video at all and see if you see bios and the boot screens. If you do, your mobo is prolly ok. If you put in anyother gfx card, or onboard video and it works :thumb:. If you put in your origional Gfx card and you get a black screen try and flash your Gfx cards bios (instructions on the manufacturers hompage). If you flash the bios and you still get a black screen with your origional card, yet other gfx cards work i would say your Gfx card is dead :waah: .
Just tellin you from experience, happened to me with a g-force 2.
    Good luck :thumb:
