my hard drive has suddenly stopped working, my motherboard information show up but after that it is just blank I do not have a warranty so can I still have it RMA'd? or should I just bite the lost and get a better hard drive?
Sometimes if you reset your BIOS / clear your CMOS it'll find the hard drive again. Happens with my laptop sometimes, it's an easy fix but still annoying. Either way I'd give it a go first.
thx for all the help it recognizes the hard drive, I tried reinstalling windows but that didn't work it's an Hitachi Deskstar SerialATA 80g i can't tryit on another computer because I don't have any other computers that can use sata i think the hard drive just went bad so should I RMA or just get a better hard drive?
If it's in warranty, it can't hurt to RMA it. If you want a better drive, just sell it on eBay or something once you get the replacement back, then use that money to help pay for the newer one.
Most computer components come with a manufactorers (sp) warranty, either 1, 2, 3 years, in some cases 5 years. Best bet is to jump onto the hitachi website, and plug in your serial number, and you will be told if the drive is still in warranty.
another deathstar bites the dust... ahem...pardon the not funny joke, but as others have said, all if not most hdds these days come with at least one years warranty, so the manufacturer will take it back and replace it if faulty.... but have you tried it out in another pc, just to make sure its not the motherboard, or that particular ata/sata slot...also if you gave us details on what mobo and hdd model no it was we might be able to give more detailed information...
