I got a notebook shoved into my hands, with the words "Doesn't work, fix it" :wallbash:
After asking some questin they crammed a new harddisk in it and it doesn't work. Ofcourse they never burned a recovery DVD of Vista, and the old hard disk is gone :wallbash:

So I tried installing window xp (will upgrade back to a legal vista install), but it say no hard disk found.
I look in BIOS, well the hard shows up correctly
I tried formatting it, sadly I could only do it to fat32, but that worked. But still the install wouldn't see the hard disk.

The notebook is a HP 530

Does anyone know a trick to get this notebook to work?

    I'm assuming it's a SATA hard disk?

If so, check in the BIOS to see if you can set the hard drive from AHCI to IDE mode, that might let XP see the drive.

If not, you need to integrate the SATA drivers onto the XP CD, nLite can do this fairly easily.
