I’ve had a long old career in networks, security, application delivery, endpoint, and InfoSec, as security consultant, InfoSec manager, design/delivery/architecture. But now I’m a carer, for someone who can’t bend or walk far without someone hovering nearby, and with my own health matters which together mean I have to be 100% home-based. I can work part time. I want and need to earn some money. Even 1-2 half day a week or so would be plenty. I’ve been trying for months to find any leads for clients but I’m just not a salesman. I may be going out on a limb but can anybody help? Do you know someone who needs a little occasional infosec and gdpr support? Or anything that might work? Thanks for reading. Edit: I have my own Ltd company, insurance and all the needed bits. Except clients and income!
Before I start asking questions, be aware that I have no authority for actually hiring people! 1) Where are you based (don't have to answer if you don't want to)? 2) Have you any experience gaining Cyber Essentials accreditation, and/or maintaining it?
Hey Pete no worries thanks for the disclaimer! I’m in a Bristol BS postcode, not Bristol itself but area. I have plenty of experience with Cyber Essentials standard and Plus, as well as ISO 27001 and SOC 2. And importantly mapping between them all. I also edited the top post, I have a Ltd company, website, LinkedIn and it’ll be a full professional thing. In terms of ongoing compliance I can set up scripted reports that cover the major areas subject to which technologies you use. Or a manual audit can be done periodically too. Cyber Essentials isn’t very onerous. It mostly cares that antivirus is on, and some other basic standards like no shared accounts etc.
Hmm... I promise absolutely nothing, and I would say have a close to zero chance of offering anything, but I'll bend the ear of a colleague. Unfortunately, I think he's overseas this week. Hopefully something else will pop in the meantime!
Thanks! My immediate needs are going to be settled by selling my GPU, better get that outta my case today and do some pics!
@Zoon hey chap, I'm afraid it's as expected and that I won't be able to help you unfortunately. I spoke to the head of commercial, and while he knew exactly where I was coming from, our company has recently been bought out by a much larger international one, who's already getting involved in the IT handling. Suffice to say there's now a small team working on it. I really hope something good comes your way.
No worries at all, given the parent company I’m not surprised they wanna handle it, that’s their usual way I really appreciate you asking though.
