check the manual for port forwarding or port mapping, or possibly services.
Find out the port that the p2p app is running on and forward that port on the router to go to the LAN IP address of the computer running it.

What P2P program are you trying to use? You'll probably need to set up 'port forwarding' on the router to allow the ports for the incoming / outgoing traffic to be passed onto the internal IP address. These setting come under 'Virtual Server' on my router so it's probably worth looking at the documentation for your router and the FAQs for the p2p softeware.

Go into the router config (usually type 192.168.0.1 into your browser - sometimes 10.0.0.1) and then have a look around the router setup pages. If there's an advanced tab, click that and look for port forwarding or mapping as spank said.

You should be able to find the router manual on the manufacturer's website :thumb:

You definately have to forward 2 ports to ghet emule running. I had problems with this also. Checking the documentation for the router is your best bet.

Have you saved the settings in the router and reset it? Also rebooted the PC for good measure?
