Long story short, my sister needs a new laptop, and ofcourse I said I'd help her find one.

Dunno why, because, as it turns out, I'm useless with mobile gear. So far I've figured that an i3-based computer would be a safe choice, but there are still endless CPU-models to choose from - let alone millions of computers that make use of those chips.

    So basically:
    - The use will be graphical work (nothing too demanding, don't go on about hundreds of 20 MB .raw-files). Anyway essentially the most important thing about the whole rig is to have enough CPU-grunt for the stuff she does.
    - No need for GPU-grunt. She doesn't expect any gaming performance
    - Light weight and compact size are preferable, but most of the time the laptop will just be sitting on the desk, so this isn't the top priority
    - Price range somewhere in the 500-700 € region
    - She'll be using an external fullhd screen, but a (relatively) good screen never hurts

That's about it for the requirements. On general side of things a long warranty would be great, although from what I've understood very few cheap laptops come with warranty of over 12 months. What else should I keep in mind? 4 GB of memory seems standard nowadays, that should be possible to upgrade in the future. SSDs are out of the price range, but might be swapped in later on. No special requirements for storage size - besides I have a 1 TB NAS-drive around, which I might just give her for backup and extra storage space.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

That looks pretty decent and Asus doesn't seem like the shittiest of brands (then again, I don't want to even go into the fanboy/hate-side of things). I just can't find that on the shops here :(

Amazon UK do free delivery to Finland, this comes in at the bottom end of your price range: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B006UCNY8W

No idea if you have any taxes or anything like that to pay though.

I've had a few Acer laptops in my time and never had any problems, Asus are obviously good too, but Acer give you a bit more value imo.
