Looking for input/advise to help me organize a modding event (series)! The first event will mostly be designing and tool explanation. Now I have hosted many LAN parties, and attendance fee has always been $5 - pays for food and drinks. But for this I have no idea what attendance should cost. Also everyone will be given a fully working P2 or P3 system in a beige mid-tower. I think this is a safe way to go as the family computer won't be at risk for anyone! Once the supplied case has been modded to suit it can then be upgraded to their liking. Please help me share something I enjoy doing (as do you) to others! :D

    My biggest questions are:
    1. Is it a good idea anyway?
    2. Should cases be supplied?
    3. What should attendance cost?
    4. Your thoughts/questions!

I would allow people to either bring their own case or purchase a case there. They will have to tell you if they are bringing one or buying one before hand.

I think it would be a good idea, but i think it would be a workshop rather than an real event. I doubt you will be able to find many people who would like to come to something like this as the people who are interested already know what google is. And many other people are just not interested.

lex90 & mikeuk2004 thanks for posting! Workshop would be a better name to call things. That sounds like a good way of doing things, to have some cases available if needed. They are older systems so I probably would let them go for $10 to anyone at the thing. We have weekly night classes at the office teaching Windows/Office/etc. They usually are full at about 30 people every week. But that is only using a PC, and not building anything... But a lot of people have seen pics of my case & friends' and commented that they knew someone that would want something similar or that they would like to get someone a modded PC. ATM it looks like there would be 4 of us available to do this. I'm probably going to mention the possibility of this at Monday night's class and gauge any interest. Until then, what do you think?

Sounds like a very cool idea. I would suggest that people bring their own cases, but insist that it can be nothing premod. No cheating. Maybe print up some guides on basics like windows, blowholes, etc for them to look at. If it was a weekly thing I'm sure people would enjoy that. However it may be hard to do stuff as a class, because some people might not want a blowhole or whatever so you couldn't really teach that as like a lesson and have everyone do it. Unless they were just learning cases, and not real projects for these people. Just practice. If this stuff works I'm so jealous of you, I would love to flex my modding knowledge for a eager young crowd. :p

Thanks for the reply! This line gave me an idea:
What you said there means that it could be done. Example being --> after the first night of looking at some examples and brainstorming, some want a blowhole. Those people stay put and get to work & everyone else leaves or maybe the next night come back and cut a hole. :dremel: I think things would progress quickly that way! Possible outline follows

Night 1: Introduction to modding. pt 2 blowhole how to
Night 2: Windowed goodness! pt 2 window how to
Night 3: Is stealthing for you? pt 2 stealth some drives

i think you would have to split it up...

    day 1: theory
    day 2: tools
    day3: holes
    day4: proper wire managment
    day5: painiting..

    and so on...

also... if every one would have to carry a case + tools there for only a few hours of work.. well... i think that would kinda reduce the interest with many, you supplying cases and tools however would skyrocket the prices.

i dont think it would be impossible, but i kinda think a lot of planning would be required.

nah... you couldn't do a whole day on theory.. would just annoy the people who just want to go nuts with a dremel. I'd say, if you need to do that, give em a dremel and a sample of materials so at least then can start mangling things. Or get em to make a mouse/keyboard mod or something...

WOW nice Idea! Like the guys said you must make people bring their own cases, and sit with them to get the idea from them and plan with them, then you do the project :D it will be a big company, Because tons of people want to mod but can't, I love to work with you but can't :(

IF I have the money and the planing about the whole thing I will go and rent a store and start modding! it's kinda same West Coat Customs in USA! You will pimp the Computers not the cars.

This thing need a lot of money because you have to be ready for every thing! mean if some one want a any thing you can get it and stay on the time line!

However, If I open Mod workshop here it will be awesome because no one have one :D I don't know about USA or UK if they have Mod workshop!

    Good luck brother.
