Hey guys, I had an interview for a job on Friday, and it's a job I would love to get (Perfect hours fits around what I need, not as good pay but better job all around).

The thing is, I have a job interview for a major bank on Wednesday, and I find out on the day if I get that job (Which I don't really want much, bad hours but good pay, but I want to do a masters and the contract will make that hard).

So I need to email the place I've had an interview for asking when I could expect to hear back by, but don't want to offend anyone.

    My basic structure is

I'm trying to show a keen interest, but not look needy or showing off, so was wondering what you think, and what changes you would make?

    Thanks

Looks good to me, short, honest and to the point - you could try calling as well. I guess the main thing is to know if you're not going to get it as the Wednesday one will suddenly be more appealing...

At risk of sounding like a complete bumhole i'll dump my thought's here for you.

Firstly take the first job that comes to you. If the other job comes through and offers you the contract mention to the first employers that you have found a better opportunity elseware and you would like to thank them for the time they have given you and the opportunity. Say the other job is more suited to you and your career goals but hope them best in finding a more suitable person for the job.

Obviously they won't be too pleased with your decision but I would leave as amicably as possible, as it not only keeps things sweet but makes you look professional.

    Take the most preffered role.

    Proffit!

Yeah... I'm with Warren. You are looking out for numero uno here, not the companies, so take what you can and keep looking and going to interviews.

Not sure if this sentence is correct:

I am wondering if successful when to hear back about the job, as this job is the one I'd love to join.

    Should that be:

I am wondering if successful when I would hear back about the job in question, as this is my ideal position going forward.

Only to minimise the use of the word job and I'm not sure you meant "to" in the original sentence.

    I would re-write this:

I recently had an interview for your open position as an [Job Title] I have an interview for a job on Wednesday, which would offer a contract on the day, but my wish is to join your team for the role available. I am wondering if successful when to hear back about the job, as this job is the one I'd love to join.

    As this:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for your consideration for the interview I attended last week for the current vacancy of [insert job here]. The interview process was very enjoyable and I believe I can be a valuble asset to your team/company[Pick one]. I unfortunately forgot to ask as to when I could expect further contact from yourselves if my application was successful. If there is any other information I can supply to support my application, please let me know.

I look forward to your reply.

    Yours sincerely,

    ^^^ Outstanding.

Also keep in mind that when someone offers you a job, you don't have to accept it on the spot. You can thank them politely, state that you are still awaiting feedback from one other interview and that once you have that you'll be able to let them know your decision as soon as possible.

No harm in letting them know that there's other companies out there who may want you. And if you choose the first company, make them feel that they made the best offer, not that they are your second choice.
