So, I got my Xbox back today with a nice patronising letter telling me it had been tampered with so they weren't going to fix it. I'm so unbelievably furious and stunned, I don't really know quite how to react. I have never tampered with my Xbox. Not even changed a face plate, nothing. I've Googled around and found this image. http://www.teamxmods.com/images/codes/xbox-360-sticker-seal4.jpg I whipped off my face plate (for the first time ever) and to my horror, my sticker is mangled. Now, I bought this Xbox second hand, two years ago, from an eight year old boy and his Dad. I am fairly confident that they haven't tampered with it. To add another layer of mystery, the sticker looks like it has been bodged during the manufacturing process or something and part of it actually disappears down a seam in the plastic - this is why, I assume, they thought it had been tampered with. So, what the hell do I do? I am genuinely upset about this. Should I plead with them? Should I threaten them? Should I lie and say I accidentally scratched it off when changing a face plate? Should I lie and say it was perfectly fine when I sent it off? Should I buy a Microsoft warranty seal off eBay, stick it on and claim it was there all along?
What did you send it back for? RRoD? I remember when mine went wrong before they extended the warranty, i took it completely apart and couldnt fix it, about a month later the warranty was extended so i sent it back and they fixed it no questions asked. I would send it back with the letter they included and a letter from you, stating that you have never tampered with the console and it must have been a manufacturing defect. This is all assuming that the previous owner hasnt fiddled with it. I know when i was a kid i used to take everything apart, Even consoles on the first day i got them to see how the worked! It may be that you just happened to buy it off a curious kid.
think youll be buying a new one doubt theyll be lenient in the least in a case where the warranty sticker looks damaged
****. I think you might be right. From the letter it sounds like they've like blacklisted my s/n now so I couldn't send it back again. I'm gonna ring up tomorrow and give them abuse anyway. Having said that, my mate reckons he can fix it with one of these clamp kits off eBay. Only £2.30 so I might as well give it a go. Man, I'm so pissed off. And when did I become so dependent on a box full of metal and plastic anyway? Wait, what am I saying... ?
What would my motivation be for lying to a group of strangers, Sherlock? It doesn't appear like honesty is going to get me very much further in this situation so I have no qualms about bullshitting my way toward an outcome that I should already have arrived at.
Worked for my PS3 although it was a tradin and guranteed to die after the quick temp fix to pass their testing.
take it to a games shop....over here (Notts) i took mine to game station paid a few quid and they sent it off to microsoft for me. and a couple of weeks later i got what appeared to be a reconditioned model with 2 years warranty on it!!
They are Microsoft. You will bow down and accept the fate they have given you while continuing to pay your yearly Gold membership.
i bought mine in GAME and they took two of them back without even looking at them and just handed me out a new one from the back there and then. long and short of it, to MS it looks like you tampered with it, this hard approach probably puts people that are thinking of chipping/modding their xboxes off doing so, at least those people who are 50/50 or unsure if they want to fully atleast MS put their hands up and fix a console when it breaks, unlike sony thatll charge you £135 for fixing their faulty hardware how long do you have it? if its under a year the shop you bought it at are obliged to bring it back, you could try and fob it off on them
actually sony are quite good when it comes to fixing their consoles. my mates one broke down and they picked it up, it took them a little longer than usual to fix it and return it to him. so when he got it back, about a month and a half later he got it back with a brand new copy of resistance 2!
My money is on the 8yo taking it apart to see how it worked. Now tell me you don't know somebody who did this when they were young!
