You could probably fit a GTX 460 into that price bracket, and then have an overclocking frenzy. Also, I think the lower end Intel CPUs are worth a look as they can produce nice performance results when overclocked. Furthermore, you could then replace the CPU with an i5 or i7 when money becomes available and the CPU doesn't cut it anymore.
LOL - and here's the Intel folk I mentioned There's AMD upgrade paths too - this budget needs to fit monitor, peripherals, everything. It's the bit-tech recommended budget build with a small CPU upgrade. It's solid and pretty well advanced at this point. ***EDIT - this is incorrect*** Vondudenstein - if your budget can handle a 1GB GTX 460 instead of an ATI 5770, then that IS faster for games. Just depends on budget. ***EDIT - this is incorrect*** EDIT: SCRATCH THAT COMMENT ABOUT THE GTX 460. THE CX400 PSU WILL NOT SUPPORT IT. You would need to upgrade PSU to something like this as well - that will complicate things for you. If the budget is there then go for it, but you're talking £60-£65 or so more of these earth pounds.
Hmmm, well things have certainly got interesting.. Looking at the bigger picture if I stump up the cash now I would, in theory I'd be ok for a few years.
This is a basic-but decent and well thought out (by bit-tech) machine. If you want to stay at the top end of games for a long time, then you will need to upgrade some pieces here and there. It all depends on what cash you have now and what you might have later. If you can afford the 1GB 460 gtx and more powerful PSU, then it will definitely give you additional longevity before an upgrade is needed, and will be a better match for a 1920x1080 monitor ... But there are always faster options for more money. It is the nature of the beast. If you do stick with the 5770, then officially you should also stick with a monitor that uses a 1680x1050 screen resolution or similar.
ok so 1st attempt at build. http://www.scan.co.uk/savedbasket/c08c450614ef4e40a0bb32fff2646829 Missing power supply and mouse/keyboard etc.
Looks good. I am not a monitor expert but it looks ok for the price bracket ... I will be on a plane for a while - have fun It will happily destroy WOW
Replace the Gainward GTX460 with one of these: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/1GB-...z-Shader-Clock-1430MHz-336-Cores-DL-DVI-mHDMI. It's a better card and £3 cheaper. Use the £3 saving toward replacing the 1333 RAM with some 1600 RAM such as this: http://www.scan.co.uk/Products/4GB-...600)-Non-ECC-Unbuffered-CAS-9-9-9-24-XMP-165V. This will give you more headroom on the assumed massive overclocks you will be hitting that CPU with. Total difference between these two things? £1 I don't know the monitor so I can't comment. Note your saved basket includes Scansure and carriage. You qualify for free delivery and it is up to you as to whether you include Scansure.
quick change of heart, mainly due to price.. So, my final decided build that I'm going with: http://www.scan.co.uk/savedbasket/42778d1dd7c149d68827add3642c1d2b would be great if someone could cast their professional eye over and let me know, getting rather nervous.
Looks good for your needs tbh. Like others have said, maybe a 460 would have been better for gaming over a 5770 - but for WoW that is more then fine. A 460 would also be better because you should stop playing WoW (former addict, I should know) and maybe get into some other less 'consuming' games. In all seriousness, gratz and have fun with your new build!
Looks good - bit-tech all rounder with a (good choice 1TB F3) HDD upgrade, and that extra core on the Athlon II for just £10. I also know nothing about the monitor, but I do see that you have the lower resolution there. That will just let you play more 'hardcore' games at the native resolution if you choose and/or keep the rig going for longer before upgrade. It will play WOW for at least 5 years at the rate that game is increasing hardware demand I look forward to hearing back. See if you can spot some articles on cable management in the Antec 300 before your build. Cheers to all.
HELP NEEDED.. got parts this morning, and a problem the the cooler is stopping me from inserting ram into DIMM1 slot.. what should I do?
Try the RAM in slot 2 (black) and slot 4 (blue) and try it then run Memtest to check. <snippet I found through google> In MSI boards the logic of channel coloring is reverse of what you'd see in ASUS boards. The logic is that each channel is a different color slot, so if you want dual channel, you have to put in the chips in different color slots. On Asus, this is the other way around (there to use dual channel, you have to put both chips in the same color slots) leading to a lot of confusion and incorrectly assembled computers in computer stores. As far as I remember though, the motherboard comes with a booklet that has pictures of all dual channel configurations. <snip>
