Thats my molex connector, but it has metal pins already in (the ones with holes for otehr molex to be inserted into) and when I try pluging the other pins into the back, they have a hellufa lot of the pins sticking way out the back (this is about half the size of any otehr molexes) and with a sharp tug they all come right out again... How exactly do these ones work

Im at a loss, any help would be greatly appreciated :)

I believe thats a right angle IDC molex plug. Push the wire in sideways so the blades cut into the insulation into the conductor

Wot he said, but there should be a clip-on cover which helps stop the wires from being lifted out again. Get the datasheet from here (your blue IDC one is second from bottom, also in red & black IDC.

    How it works: http://www.molex.com/tnotes/idtbm.html

Don't blame you on the Ez grip One's .... I bought the exact One's that you bought above ... They looked really nice .... But when i got them i had no instruction's at all how to use them ... baffled me for age's .... I took Day's working out where the little clip's attached etc .... After i did find out how to use them i tried replacing my Molex's with them and when i did they were crap anyway .... The fit is no where as good as standard molex pin's you soldier and click nicely into place ... These make you feel like they ain't too secure and could wedge out easy or you feel like they ain't making contact .... Good choice Retro .... Ez grip Molex's for me anyday,
    ;)

I have some of these, but not the ones made for "modders", the ones i have are white or orange, and most are taken from old computers and such.

These are frequently found in: Old Compaqs, Y-adapters, removable HD trays.

What part is it you mean isn't secure? These are specialized contacts and require a specific wire thickness and specific thickness of each little copper thread (what are those called in english anyway?)

If you use these on the thinner wires found on some cheap PSUs today, they might not stick properly. Allso, these are not ment for you to pull the wires, and you need that covering lid.

These contacts are the best when used on the right kind of wires. Low profile, and the right-angle connections makes it easier to make connections for several drives ontop of eachother.

With many little wires they are called "stranded"; the others are called "solid". The "IDC" that cpemma mentioned stands as far as I know for "Insulation Displacement Connector". They are great and reliable, but you do need exactly the right size.

Very true on the wire size because i used them for another mod ( Not a Pc Mod .. ) and they did work better .... The kit i bought had every conceivable molex connector known to man and load's of them clip's that protect and hide the back of the plug ... In a lovely uv green color .... (bought from Ebuyer ... They did'nt stock the nice ez grip's which i have now in my case ....

So bottom line is .... if you want these connector's to be snug and fit nicely ...
Either buy a top name Psu (Obviously checking the wire's are the exact size so the molex's fit,), ... or be prepared to completely strip your psu wire's and replace every One, ..... Not something anyOne want's to do .... I know because i did it lol ...
If anyOne has actually used these without the wiring problem then great .... But even when i did get a couple on .... The sleeving looked GOOD ... but the moveability and getting the molex in the Hd/Dvd was very difficult .... no anchor or give in the cable due to the fact the molex was rock solid against cable ...... That was difficult enough .... Getting them off was a lot more scarey .... they were welded in lol You feel half the molex is missing where you would generally hold and pull ... It's not there lol .... There was nothing to grip to pull them out ... I had to use Molegrip's to pull them out and then the back clip come's flying off .... Any more pull i would of damaged a wire for sure ... So Basically .. if you have standard size wire's off your psu ... then don't waste your Time on these Right angled and in angled molex's ... If you do try and do succeed ... Post it here and i'd love to see the result's etc .... I hated them lol ..
Hello to all anyway ... never said hello before, ;)

As i said, the ones i used were oooold ones, i stole them out of old computers and Y cables.

The wires from my PSU are pretty much the right size and they work perfectly.
There is allso no problem getting them out of the drives, but that might be because i have slightly stronger fingers than average, i work a lot with my hands.

I use them to fit more connectors between the existing 2 on the cables from the PSU, i run about 4 units off each cable now.
