Budget: $700-$800 or the lowest I can go so I can play games like Crysis,Shogun 2 & SC2 on high smoothly Main uses of intended build: Gaming (big part of the build),uploading photos(Picasa),Microsoft word/excel & Internet surfing Parts required: Windows 7,monitor & w/e else you need in a computer. No mouse or keyboard Previous build information (list details of parts): Never had one Monitor resolution: W/e the best resolution is for gaming. Storage requirements: I don't really know about this,I guess w/e you guys recommend Will you be overclocking: yes/no (delete as required) What is this,& w/e you guys recommend Any motherboard requirements (no. of USB, Xfire/SLI, fan headers): Dom't know what this is,w/e you guys recommend Extra information about desired system: My main use for this build will be gaming & playing games on high smoothly. My friend though of this build for my budget, included are all the parts I need. What are you thoughts on this build, anything I should change or mix up? http://secure.newegg.com/WishList/PublicWishDetail.aspx?WishListNumber=19993247
Only thing I would change would be the case. You can't put all that nice hardware into a cheap case like that. Look at the Coolermaster Haf 912/ Antec 100/300/ Coolermaster 690II Lite Aslo worth Adding An aftermarket Heatsink like the coolermaster hyper 212 plus/ Arctic freezer 7
I just bought that same monitor myself and I have no complaints with it. I would recommend a higher watt PSU though, some GPU's kinda require around a 500+ and one that comes with the 2x 6pin plug ins for it.
Definantely agree with you about the case - it has a puny single fan at the rear which looks about 80mm - with a 460 dumping heat into that case, things will get toasty pretty quick.
Alright I'll look into a new case. Do you guys think that graphics card will suffice for Crysis 1 or Shogun 2?
The 768 will suffice decently. But the 1GB will do wonders. If you want to compromise get the HD6850, it's right in the middle of those two and more often than not can hold its own against the 1GB GTX460. Your budget is a bit tight, but I suggest getting an X4 945, and then getting a better motherboard. It's hard to move around, but if you have an older monitor stick with that first as it allows for more room for improvement in your other components such as dual channel memory, a case with better airflow, and a proper power supply with at least 450w.
So changing those supplies for the ones you recommended will improve performance overall for games? If so those $25 are so worth it so I can play Crysis or Shogun2 on the highest settings smoothly. Since I don't know what exactly those supplies you recommended were, could you make a wishlist,of some sort,so I know what I'm looking at?
Well Shogun 2 thus far murders any computer due to the insane amount of processing power needed. As for the quad core, I only suggest the 945 because it's cheaper, and a more solid motherboard because it creates a better base. The extra $25 will help a decent bit performance, but the main thing here is this: if you want room to move around, forget the monitor for the moment.
It will be, but it'll play it better if you decided to drop the monitor and add money accordingly to other parts of the computer. Right now, the monitor is sucking up quite a large amount of money and there are cheaper and better options (used) for your monitor. I'm quite sure you can bear with your monitor for a bit longer, in the long run the extra cash for the PC will benefit you much better than that Asus monitor anyhow.
