Hey, It's my first time overclocking so I thought I'd give it a go. Ram: Corsair Dominator 1600mhz CPU cooler: freezer pro 7 Case: Coolermaster stacker which I've directed the motherboard tray upside down and attached two 120mm intake fans at the bottom of the case, so theres cool air just shooting up straight to the CPU, as well as two other fans on the front shooting in cool air. I've followed overclocking guides etc yet every time I try it, my pc wont boot till it says overclocking failed. As on guides I go in, turn off EIST, CIE, OC Genie, mem ratio to 4, the QPI on lowest, spread spec and Load line off. Restart, everything okay. After finding values from people with simular set up's to me I've been trying: The most I've tried overclocking is bus to 200, and ratio 20. = 4ghz. Vcore: tried 1.32 and 1.445 VTT: 1.44 and 1.314 DRMA 1.65 PCH: 1.9 PCH:1.08 Restart, doesn't boot for the 3 times and says overclock failed. I've tried lowering the base clock and ratio to lower settings but still isn't stable. Any suggestions? Cheers.
What are you stock idle/load temps? Make sure you have everything set up and working fine before you try overclocking. You'll also want to try starting lower and working your way up, leaving the vCore at default to start with and increasing as necessary to get it stable. I also wouldn't try and shoot for 4.0GHz if I were you - you'll only be disappointed unless you buy a better HSF, as the ACF7P isn't good enough to handle the heat produced at those higher clock speeds.
I doubt your freezer 7 is enough to be honest. The Hyper 212 from Cooler Master is barely enough when we reviewed that. Enable Intel EIST and set the multiplier to 21. That'll give you 190MHz base clock which the board should do. We couldn't get our GD65 to 200MHz (and more) on air without massively dropping the multipler, which doesn't really count.
managed 205Mhz Bclk with 20x multi making 4.1Ghz bootable on my board. check memory timing, manually set it to your Dominator's value. at 1.44v Vcore, what is your load voltage? i found my Asus board has 0.1 Vdroop when turning off load-line calibration.
At the moment my idle temps are around 27-38 (ranging on how long my pc is been on). Load when I've turned on Prime95 sets it at.. around 55. Do you reckon a titan fenrir could with stand the heat? As if Im personally honest I doubt I'd really "need" the preformance boosts from 4ghz till next year when I might invest in a new GPU so a cooler upgrade wouldn't be all that bad. _____ Edit: I've just been playing around with it, managed to get to 3.7 with it booting, but then had blue screens with first memory dump then about heat. So I've got it at 3.2ghz atm, with the memory at 1600mhz 7-7-7-20 (was originally only allowing 1333 at stock). Thats all with auto voltages etc. So I'll keep an eye on temps and see if this is stable. idle atm is 42. Edit: Well, decided to reset my settings, I was benchmarking lower that my stock settings, upped the ratio 21, so leaving it at 2.8 1333mhz for the RAM. I'll probably just overclock the gpu a bit.
