Overclocking help please rig is not performing

i clean the pc out twice a month using a tin of compressed air and a fine paintbrush....oh and i do turn the rig off when i do it.

 

hmmm, have you taken apart the computer all the way down to the mobo screws then put it back together? its usually simple stuff that causes problems because they're often overlooked.

 

it was a complete over haul the other week...i had to strip it down completley as i had to remount the hdd cages to get the new card in.

So i spent around 3 hours rerouting all the cabling etc, taking out all the fans...believe me the top 200mm fan in the Antec 900 is a complete $£%££"""%^ to take out and refit

 

Do you have the individual figures for cpu and the two gpu scores in 3d mark 06 to compare to other entries?

 

all ive got is the result of 14574 3DMarks from when i ran it again today

 

That still seems about right to me with your cpu @3.4ghz and the gtx 275.

I looked on 3d marks ORB site and the only system I could find that was the same as yours was also scoring just below 14.5k.

If you could run it again and note down the Cpu, SM 2.0 and SM 3.0 scores then I could at least compare them to my scores for the 275 and see if they are similar. Are you registered and maybe have saved them on ORB.

could having 8GB ram be causing any issues?

 

Heres a comparison with my rig and the other system similar to yours although he has a E6850.



If I overclock to 3.8ghz and OC the 275 it hits just over 19k.

I run @3.7ghz though.

Compared to the other guy, you look spot on. You have a slightly higher overclock and your cpu score reflects this well.

Your 275 scores look very similar to mine as well. Your SM 2.0 is higher than mine but my SM 3.0 is higher than yours so again it sort of balances out.

I don't own Arma 2 but I've heard its a bit of a killer and prefers quads.

 

so what can I do to get a better score....flash the bios to latest version and upgrade to the Q9550?

 

are you maxing out the eye candy? turn that down a tad if so. otherwise, grab a q9550 or something...w00t

edit: slightly off topic...how do you like the game? is it worth the $50 they want for it?

 

Q9550 nearly doubles your cpu score on 3d mark 06 @ 3.4ghz so I think that would make a marked improvement.

Try it under xp and run the system with 3gb just out of interest? See if it makes any differnce due to drivers?

secondly if you want to talk in detail you could try the Amra forums, there is going to be a heap of guys with systems similar to yours, and they are going tobe able to commincate as they are coming over a from arma 1..there going to know there systems.

Did anyone consider the fact that maybe TC didn't patch ARMA II yet?

 

the thing about upgrading CPU is that you will not notice any FPS update ingame. 3Dmark score isn't everything and shouldn't be taking that seriously.

try other games that are known to be good performance such as CoD4, UT3, Crysis (yes, Crysis patched. it is a good benchmark for GPU)
