What. The. F***. This is truly unacceptable from someone who lives in London (unless you're an immigrant, in which case my apologies). I really think we should have some program for these people (not software), PM me for discussion of this. Now to answer your question. I believe you are saying: -You acknowledge we know something about computers. -You recently bought a Dell Dimension "515oc." -Aforementioned computer has no TV-out, whereas your old computer did. -Aforementioned computer has no slot to place your old graphics card (which has a TV-out) into. -You would like a solution to this problem, as you would like to again be able to hook your computer up to your TV. In answer: -Many of us do know something about computers, and some a lot more. -There is no Dell Dimension "515oc." The closest match is the E510. I can't seem to find any port data on it. -(See above). -The E510 has a PCI-E x16 slot in it for graphics. If your old system was AGP, then you will need to buy either a PCI-E x16 graphics card with TV-out or a PCI card that will have TV-out. -(See above). For future reference, zentor, the rules of this forum specifically stipulate that if possible, correct English (grammar, punctuation, spelling, capitalization, etc. as well as NO leetspeak) is to be used. This is not a chat. We are more likely to give you good help if you: (A)Speak in correct English. We are a forum. Imagine you are talking to us in a cafe. Would you go, "H3y d3wd, i n33dz h3lp w/mi 1337-h@x0R c0mputer." (B)Give accurate and useful information. We aren't psychic.
I am not usually as strict as this, but if your next post is equally as bad I will perma-ban your account without hesitation. We try to make this forum as friendly and easy to read as possible, so mobile phone style chat is unnacceptable. Considering a fair amount of members have english as a SECOND language and are able to type up better composed posts than you have managed I'd be embarassed in your shoes. Frankly Sir, you deserve a Dell PC.
You know, that's how I read it the first time. I thought something to the effect of, "WTF? Is this guy or something? Ew!" Then I turned off the perv.
Other than all that (which I agree with) welcome to the forums! Just to reiterate there are 3 different slots a gfx card can use; 1. PCI of which there's usually 3-5 starting from the bottom edge of the expansion slots and working up towards any AGP or PCI-E slots. This is an ancient standard which gfx cards haven't really used in a decade and only likely to be needed if your motherboard is very old with integrated gfx (built into the m.board). These are commonly used for sound cards, modems etc. 2. AGP at the top of the expansion slots and usually brown in colour, this has recently been replaced by PCI-E. It looks very similar to a PCI slot but is placed much nearer the middle of the m.board rather than the outside edge. 3. PCI-E (PCIe or PCI Express) usually at the top, gfx cards use the longer 'x16' PCI-E slots and there can be 2 of these long x16 slots. These look like thin PCI slots and if your m.board has them it will probably have the very short 'x1' PCI-E slots too. These are set a little further towards the moddle than the PCI slots. If all this still isn't clear then the simplest and safest thing to do is buy a PCI (not PCI-E) gfx card which comes with TVout, that should solve your problem.
Right the 5150C is a small form factor badboy that is a right pain in the ass and i'd recommend people to steer clear of. What we will need to know is does yours have a graphics card in it, or just uses onbard graphics? I have a friend with one of these, his has an X600SE card in it which does have the capability of tv out, i think with an additional adaptor. It may be that the card does not have s-video out, but another form of plug and all you require is the correct cables/adaptors. On another side note, please everyone steer clear of the 5150c's. They truelly are one of the worst package computers i have ever seen, they are usually specced with a dual core 800 series intel cpu, a passively cooled graphics card and other high heat componants, all of which are attempted to be cooled by a single 92mm fan which just can't hack it even on the highest tornado speed it hits when you load the cpu at all. The one i experienced could not stress both cores symultaneously without producing errors (2 instances of superpie one on each core, one bombed out after about 10 secs, but it ran fine on each core individually). The only temp monitoring i could get working was for the hard drive which was up in the 50's the whole time and physically burning to the touch, definately not a good thing. Even with the case side off things didnt get any better, it really is the apitamy of dell's lets design a nice small form factor case then stuff it full of high heat componants and hope. A 900 series dual core may well have just been ok, due to their lower heat characteristics, but it turelly is rediculous, and all of this with the middle speed cpu too, i cant imagine what would happen with the highest spec cpu del would allow in there. Oh, all these tests were done due to the system crashing every few hours when being used for net browsing and light downloading!! Good old dell customer support only want dell's own diagnostics run which suprise suprise don't cause any issues, and so they won't take it back
FYI, going to "dell.com" and searching for 5150c (which, by the way, is different from "515oc") I get this link: http://support.dell.com/support/edocs/systems/dim5150C/en/sm/specs1.htm In short, get a PCI-E x16 graphics card with TV-out. Done. EDIT: Woot! 69 Dude!!! And thanks to hitman for his most valid point below. I totally forgot to mention it.
