I have just bought a second hand SV24 Shuttle, just the case, PSU and motherboard.

Seller suggested that I bring a CPU to test system before buying, good old Dabs could not supply a CPU in time, so I bought the Shuttle without testing it.

However the unit is still under warrenty, and when I visted the seller, the PC was set up ready for me to test, minus the CPU which he had used in another machine, so I have every reason to believe that the computer was working.

I have built a new PC tonight using the Shuttle, and it will not boot, there is no video and won't get even to the POST screen, it is completely dead.

I have fitted a new Celeron 900MHz processor, and have checked and double checked every connection, and have stripped down the PC and rebuilt it on three occassions tonight, and still it will not boot.

PSU is working, as case and motherboard fans work, and power and hard disk leds light up on the case. There seems to be power to the motherboard, as an led indicator on it is lit.

Before building the new machine, I reset the CMOS so it defaulted to the factory settings.

Assuming that the PC was working before I bought it, which I have every reason to believe, does this sound like a fault with the new processor?

When you reset the CMOS, did you put the jumper back in its original postion afterwards?

I had the exact same problem when I built my new system, different mobo but, make sure you put the RAM in the correct order, as my mobo has four slots, and I have only two sticks of Ram, I have to put them into the slots in reverse order, I'm using slots 4 and 3, as opposed to the logical 1 and 2. Cuz everything would go up fine, except it wouldn't post. So move your RAM around if you can.

Are they both used though? Maybe someone should actually go to the shuttle website and find out.......

EDIT: I only used my mobo as an example, the problem might exist if there is more than one slot on the mobo, which is the case with almost all mobos.

the way he describes it, is that it sounds like a dodgy deal of somesort, as in it dont seem to work anymore now that he has bought it...

It far worse than that, when fitting the heatsink, I slipped with the screwdriver (why do they make the spring clips so hard to press ????)

After taking the computer apart for another time, I have noticed that I have scored across a number of tracks on the PCB, in my haste, I didn't remove the motherboarsd from the case whrn fitting the processor.

Now have to buy another motherboard

    AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

It might still be possible to fix with a conductive pen of some sort

Thanks, I have already thought of that, but the gouge is about 2 inches long, and has damaged some of the SMT components

    :eeek:

Don't hold out too much hope, but it MIGHT be possible to get the SMC devices from maplin.

You need about 24 hours, a fine-tipped soldering iron and a LOT of patience :D

Might be worth a shot though, esp if you can't get a refund on the mobo.
