If you have found these two boards that meet your specification, then I would choose Asus without a doubt. Are you sure that they're compatible with all your components?
Sorry? That doesn't make sense... all Socket 939 motherboards and processors have a 1000MHz HyperTransport link, and all Socket 754 processors and motherboards have an 800MHz HyperTransport link. Where are you getting this information from?
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813131558 this is the mobo i want.it says max fsb is 800mhz and the cpui want to get 3700+ is a 1000mhz fbs
That's either a mistake or yet another limitation of VIA's chipsets . Either way, you should be fine - having the HTT at 800MHz won't really affect performance. Asus' CPU support database lists the processor as being compatible.
hes right the via chipset does only support 800mhz HTT which is weird as it looks like they can only pass the HTT very slowly. it seems more like a feature than a limitation on this chipset, its abit sad tho that you have to buy a sub-performing board.
3700+. The Opteron is slower at stock than the Athlon, and since that motherboard is utterly rubbish for overclocking, the Optie is all but wasted (and the newer steppings overclock like crap anyway).
no they arnt gettin rid of the old stuff, Am2 is just the next newer version of the 939 stuff. Its exactly the same as the 939 but it has 940 pins and uses DDR2 thats all. If you allready have 939 then theres no point in upgrading but people like me who are on SktA would prob upgrade to AM2 insted of 939.
ha...im still in socket a land for about 3 years now and i really need a upgrade thats why im looking at skt939 can wait untill june
