I think if you cant use a crimping tool, you shouldnt be messing with psus.

But seriously, above description is pretty cool, not easy to explain how to use a crimp tool without physically showing somebody.+ rep Javerh

Reading post, it says Chimping tool, i thought it was a tool for fertilising monkeys for a moment........ Ouch!!!!!.

Those crimps look ok. It looks like the tool you have isn't designed to do the insulation support crimp to the same standard as the eBay one, or even if it has the capability to do them. Wraparound insulation support is perfectly acceptable provided it's not loose.

I worked with these terminations in the Quality Assurance department for 12 years in case you are wondering how I can decide what's good and what's bad. We didn't use many hand tools but quite often the hand tools we did use would have an additional area for the insulation crimp or we'd use a separate tool just to do them.

Here's a tool where the crimp space on the right is much larger and suitable for insulation.

I've never really looked where one would source these tools from.

The mdpc-x one seems to have a crimp for the wire which looks about right and then a much larger one, which could be used as an insulation support crimp, or just for much larger wire sizes. It could also be that the crimper has two blades for each wire size but is not visible in their image. The trouble with these is that sometimes the size of the insulation crimp needs to be larger than the corresponding wire crimp for a perfect crimp. For this reason our automated tooling had replaceable wire and insulation crimps, something which is difficult to achieve with hand crimpers.

But as I said the crimps you are making are fine. You will not notice once assembled any appreciable difference in the way the terminals sit inside the connector, nor will the insulation slide out of the crimp if the wraparound is tight enough. If the wraparound is loose it's possible that the PVC could retract and look bad once inserted, if it's too tight it could shear the copper conductor.

Occasionally our customers would ask us to put a wraparound insulation crimp on their terminals, usually because they had a restrictive location where they wished the terminal assembled, or they didnt want the insulation pierced.
