Want to play an MP4 file in wmp but it is 5.1 and I only have stereo headphones so when I play it I only get the two side channels. I cant find the option in wmp to chnage to stereo only. Anyone know how to where it is? Thanks

This would have been better in Tech Support... :p

What version of Windows/Windows Media Player are you using?

Surely your computer (thus WMP) knows you've only got headphones in - 2.0 headphones, I presume, and thus only outputs two channels of sound?

I was of the understanding that a 5.1 clip played through, say, 2.0 still plays all channels, just merged into left, right, or both (the centre speaker).

Presuming you're on Win7, right click the Speaker in the system tray, then go Playback Devices, select the one the clip is playing through, then click Configure to change to stereo if it thinks it's playing in 5.1.

I'd check your computer is set for 2.0 playback - as others have said. :)

    [edit] 17k! :D

Control Panel - Sound - right-click your Headphones option - Configure speakers. There you go. :p
