Grrrr..... I finally got the wireless router to work alongside the wired router, but my leptop still cannot see the wired PCs. I would like for the laptop to be able to pull music and whatnot off of my main PC.

Also, in the near future I will be moving my PC up into my room and would like to use my wireless stuff to send the connection dowstairs. I dont want to buy cards for each PC though. I already have a few 8 port switches and 2 4 port routers, and the basement and first level of the house have rj45 wired through the walls. I want the modem to be in my room because my dad turns it off a lot and it screws over my DLs that i leave going over night.

My second question other than the laptop, is: What do I need to buy to get the bottom floors of my house to use the wiresless router. Is there something like a wireless switch/bridge/acess point. Sorry, I'm kind of a noobie to the wireless stuff. Oh yeah, my stuff is all 802.11g, but my dad doesnt need the bandwidth so 802.11b will suit him fine. but basically, the bottom floors have all the pcs hooked into an 8 port switch, but i wat them to use the wireless. sounds simple, but i bet its prolly not or it will just be expensive.

oh well, if anyone knows what im trying to explain and what I need please post links to items here. Also, I'm in the US. No UK/Europian stores.

I take it youve done the whole workgroup settings and all of that? File sharing is enabled? Need a little more info on the pcs...

All you need downstairs is an accesspoint hooked to a wired switch or hub that would be connected to the rest of the wireless network through the ap. Dlink is my favorite for the signal strength and software. Stay with G save yourself issues down the road...

Naw, not getting 802.11G for them. As part of the deal for getting my PC in my room I get to pay for all of this. if they complain about speed, they can buy it themselves. Being only 16 this stuff is very expensive to me. i was lucky to pick up the 802.11g pcmcia card for 45 bucks (normally 89). Ok, I just need another wireless AP and ill be good to go. thanks

It’s been awhile since I’ve done router/WAN stuff but you will need to setup the routers to make both networks aware of each other. Right now it seems that both LANs are up and running but they don’t know the other exists.
