Hey guys, Right, I've come into possession of a NEC 42" Plasma monitor (Model number: PX-42vp4pg) for the low price of £1.04. Only problem is, it doesn't work. It turns on alright but no picture is displayed. The screen doesn't even light up. When plugged into a computer the laptop does detect it and lets us change resolution and so on. When changing the resolution the screen does appear to flicker slightly. Since it was only a quid(ish) I took it on the off chance it could be fixed reasonably cheaply. If not then I've about 15 friends begging me to let them have at it with sledgehammers and the like. Thoughts?
Lucky you, I can say that there are two things wrong with it: 1. Either the Y-SUS or the X-SUS is whacked. 2. The Digital output board is fried. That said, the lack of being there makes it quite hard to say what's really wrong with it.
Well I gave NEC a buzz and they said they'd look at it for free... if I brought it to them... in Shropshire. If I brought it to them and they shipped it back £140 If they came and got it and shipped it back £320 Think it'll be getting a good smash instead. Oh well, for £1.04 it was worth a punt
NOooo!!! Just check the boards yourself. NEC plasmas are top notch. Don't waste it and smash an expensive panel!
Already cracked it open and had a good peer around inside. Nothing that I can see, I have limited skills in this so not much I can do. I was going to sell it on and let someone else take a crack at it but I think we are going to turn it into a fundraiser.
All right man. But you can probably sell the Panel to ShopJimmy or something. You could make about $1600..
