Hi all, I'm building a PC that will satisfy my gaming needs and to do school work on. As of right now I'm having trouble deciding on a power supply.

    Right now my hardwares are:
ABIT KN8 SLI Socket 939 Motherboard
eVGA Geforce 7600GT 256MB Video Card
AMD Athlon 64 3700+ San Diego CPU
CORSAIR 1GB RAM (in addition to that I'll be getting 2x 512MB from a friend)
    SAMSUNG 250GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s HDD
    NEC 16X DVD±R DVD Burner

And the power supplies I'm trying to decide on are
    Enermax
    Aspire
    Thermaltake

all are around 500W, thanks for the help

Get an Antec, Enermax, or Seasonic. 'nuff said. Also, a good 330W could probably manage that system assuming you don't have more then 1 hard disk. a 400W could definately do it, so long as it's a decent one.

A Tagan 420w would suit your needs fine. Not to mention it'll better than those 3 by far.
If not Tagan, look into Seasonic. You don't need 500w though, more like 380w~.

But always buy the better brands.

Tagan are rare and expensive in the US Shadowed Fury, which is obviously the reason I missed them out ;)

Seriously though, they cost too much over there to be justifiable.

Fortron is another one that is a bit more availible in the states than some of the others mentioned (though tagan and hiper psus are availible from newegg)

Seasonic are raking in the Editors Choce awards at the moment. Very efficient with oodles of extra power on demand.

I had a fairly similar system to that and am running it all on the 400W version of the enermax liberty without any problems at all. I've got an overclocked dual core in there now and its still perfectly happy and is still damn quiet, the fan only spins up under gaming load and even then its still quiet. I've been nothing but impressed with it :)

Fair enough saving money but id get the Hiper 580w as its cheap for its wattage, quiet, stable and will last alot longer if you upgrade your rig, of course if you dont intend to for ages then theres no point
