k so my sisters dell just died... yeah it sucks but what ever... so my parents who faught me all the way to build my own computer have now come to me asking me to build her a computer... so far she has picked out this http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=1283663&CatId=333 case... please help i have no idea what she needs... if someone can throw out some part ideas to make it cool... its gotta just be very internet/video and music friendsly not much of a game computer... just some ideas? thanks
Edit: Okay, since thats a barebone your probly going to need a videocard and a processor. Look around the internet for Socket 478 Pentium 4, the videocard is your choice. On the processor you could probly just get the cheapest one as i dont think your sister plays Half Life 2 or uses any other processor intensive programs?
ive never seen the barebone kits what all do they come wiht??? yeah i wasnt ganna get her a uber expencive processor since she just surfs the net and talks online... types papers and such... thats all...
Do you have a budget? How much are you going to spend? I recently built my aunt a similar type of computer and that was only $800. It would be easy get it cheaper too.
That system comes with the case, motherboard, and PSU already installed. You'll need a CPU, RAM, a hard drive, and CD-ROM drive. The motherboard has onboard graphics that should be just fine for anything except gaming and 3-D rendering. I'd suggest you get your hardware from newegg. They've got the same shuttle base system, so if your parents aren't happy with you ordering from multiple suppliers, you could get it all from newegg. (It'll cost you all of $0.01 more.)
Quite frankly, Id go with the following; MSI RS480 IL board (socket 754 with X300 graphics built in) Link Sempron 2600+ Palermo (socket 754 CPU) Link 512 Megabytes of Corsair PC 3200 DDR RAM Link Seagate 80 Gigabyte SATA hard drive Link Aspire Q-pack with 420 Watt PSU Link Pioneer 109 BK DVD Burner Link Floppy drive (Just in case) Link That should have her set up pretty well. Its not a bad deal either at $397.50
Definately go with Newegg. My friend recently just ordered a router and network card for his house from Tiderdirect, and BOTH items were on back order, and thats after a week of waiting just to find out he has to wait longer. The router finaly came, and three weeks later his network card is STILL on backorder. Why do they advertise products they don't have? I told him to order from newegg but he wanted the rebate (TD's elusive, and eye-appaling "great deals") so he could buy City of Heroes with it. 3 weeks and waiting, and from me he got a big 'ol "I told you so!" So, long story short, order from Newegg!
he didnt pick out a shuttle he picked out a micro atx mobo and sff case (for the micro atx mobo). and amd is the way to go. i would choose rotosequence's set up if i were you.
Havent you people heard of flexible plans? Celerons are horrific as far as value goes, and the system I designed is much more flexible than that shuttle.
That's good to know. Thanks, Mio! About planning... Being flexible is all well and good, but when Little Sister says "Ooh, it's cute! I want that one!", and then Parents say "Make it so", you don't have much choice. A Pentium 4 system should be fine for web surfing and whatnot. (In fact, I built a system almost identical to that one for my Mom to use.)
yes they do, the cpu should be oem... thought of that earlier but was to lazy to post. if you want to spend an extra $40 or so, you could upgrade to p4.
I'd go with a laptop of some kind. She could then take her computer anywhere. Heres my suggestion for a laptop: http://www.acer.ca/acerpanam/page4....aram=CA&LanguageISOCtxParam=en&crc=1133284373 There are 2 configuration for this particular laptop. The less powerful (and therefore cheaper) one will be able to do what you described and with the dedicated graphics, the computer will not feel sluggish
