Graphics help with vid card choice?????

i want to stay in this price range, and obviously want the best for the money. i know nothing about choosing a vid card please help. thanks.

 

I would say that is not a bad card. Infact one of the best ones you could buy. Its not the GTX model with 512MB Ram, but it should still be pretty good. I also think that it looks like a resinable deal although not sure what a good price is where you are as I am in Aus.

 

I dont think you will get a better card for the price the 7800GT is a good card

 

A great card for the money. The GTX offers too little performance increase for the price, and the GTX 512s are non-existent and too expensive anyway.

 

The 7800GT is a good card, the GTX is not a sizeable increase in performance you only start to see real gains if you get an oc'd version or you oc one

 

It's a fantastic card, I love mine.
You won't regret it.

Although, I do recommend buying a VGA silencer, the stock cooler is a little loud (especially when under load).

A quick bit of googling, and research will back all this up.... the 7800GT is without doubt the best value for money right now. It has 4 pixel pipelines less than the GTX, but it's not THAT far behind on performance, and if you overclock it, you have a great card at a fantastic price.

 

Personally, I'd spend a little less and get this one...

It's the same card (at slower clock speeds) for about $15 less, plus it's got a $20 rebate. Also, you can get a free copy of Quake 4 by registering at evga.com.

From everything I've read, all of the 7800GT's clock to nearly the exact same speed. The lower clock speed on the one listed can easily be upped to the speed as the one you posted, or faster if you wish.

I have the evga 7800GT CO - and all i can say is FANTASTIC!

you will not be disappointed.

the reason i spent £30 more on it than another brand was:
lifetime warranty
copper cooler (id only just change it later anyhow, so might as well get it with it already on it)

does 17500 3dmark 03 in my opteron 165 (275X9) is amazingly smooth - i play all my games at 1600X1200@100Hz and no problems whatsoever with the graphics card.

doesnt consume THAT much power compared to gtx, gives great performance, and will keep up with all games at low-ish resolutions (1024) but will let u run quite a few current ones at 1600 provided yr system is upto it!

you cannot get a better card, although the lack of games was a little irritating!

oh, its also the highest clocked at retail gt available, so no voiding warranty by OCing.
