    schmit?!?!?!

Your going to have to give us faaaaaar more info than that!

We need to know what the mobo is although i suspect your on about an old Pentium 3 system.

We also need to know how much ram u have, what kind, hdd size stuff like that.

Although i suspect that the best thing you could do would be to build a new machine just a small cheap one, would be much more powerful. And could be done for £300. You could keep the original hdd too if u wanted and have a second one to act as the master so that your parents do not lose their work etc.

    Ug :)

Got this from www.e4me.com in their support section...

    "eTower 366id, 366is, 366i2, 400i2, 400ix, 400id, 400idx, 400i3, 433i, 466i, 466id, 466is, 466ix, 500is, 500ix, 500i, 500idx, 533i
Florida-TG/TGA Micro ATX (ATX V1.2 form factor) motherboard, TriGem, Korea Intel Socket-370 (370pin PPGA Socket) for Intel Celeron CPUs Intel 440LX core and ITE8673 Super I/O controller ATI Rage Pro Turbo built-in AGP graphics accelerator with 4MB SGRAM Crystal CS4280/CS4281 built-in Sound Blaster Pro, MPC-3, MPU-401 compatible Audio Enhanced Stereo full duplex operation"

So your looking for a Socket 370 PPGA Celeron...

440LX can not handle any bus speed higher than 66MHz (without overclocking). Thus, as eddie says, you're looking at 66MHz bus celerons. Since the likelihood is that the machine can not take the FCPGA chips, but rather is limited to PPGA, then the fastest possible CPU is the Celeron 533 (NOT the 533A).

Since the name suggests that the present clock speed is 500MHz, that would hardly seem a worthwhile upgrade....

In other words, its new PC time!

You can make a very cheap pc thats at least twice as powerful for £350. Just buy another hdd and keep the current so your parents dont lose the data and have the old one as a slave...

    Ug :)

I'm seeing a lot of systems of this generation getting tossed out... I am starting to scoop them up like candy... still a good system (maybe not as your primary) I could easily see my closet filling up with these because people don't see that they still have a use. Currently, I have two cely mobos and three processors that people have just given me.
