my dad bought a midiland surround sound system from a yard sale. but it doesn't have the power adapter for the ditgital box.

    the spec are
    input:120v ac 60hz
    output:12v dc 500mA

my question is can i solder a wire to the box and put a molex connector on it for the power instead of buying the power adapter?

usually the most draw comes from the sub (usually powerd on its own) but a few speakers shouldnt go near 300+ watts constant. the onyl question is will the draw be that much more than the output? Obviously it will draw a tiny bit more for the display and lights and stuff, but if its outputting 200 watts will it at that instant draw a little over 200 or will it be more/less ?

Stop worrying him already. If the box needs only 12v dc at 500mA, then even the most bog-standard PSU can manage. Just look at the Amp rating on the 12V line of your PSU. It must be at least 10A. 500mA is one-twentieth of that!
