hey i need help. i just bought a multimeter and hvae no idea how to work it. can anyone who kows how to work one tell me the basic steps to working it.
give us a picture of your multimeter and it'd be a lot easier that way i could tell you the exact functions of your specific model
Let me start by saying welcome to the forum, hope you like it here. Second, and most obvious, is read the manual. If you have no manual, then if you tell us which one it is (either link to a page with it, or give us manufacturer and model) we can help you alot better. Most importantly what do you need to use it for? What will you be measuring? To start, if you are truly lost, read all of this fun info: http://forums.bit-tech.net/showthread.php?t=61317 then you will know what you are looking for. From there we will be able to help you more. Till then learn about electronics and educate yourself enough to explain what you are looking for. From there any of us here will share any info we can with you. --sorry bout bold but i actually am providing help unlike other posts
here this is the one i got. i figered that a link to the page would be easer to show http://www.radioshack.com/product.a...y_name=CTLG_011_008_002_000&product_id=22-813
i'm providing help but i need to know exactly what his multimeter is capable of doing. a $15 won't do all the functions that a $100 meter will. don't go bashing above posts without thinking them through.
basically, you're going to use the first foure left functions on your multimeter. OFF, Voltage, Amperage, Resistance. For Voltage, resistance, and small amperage, you need your black cable in the black hole and your red cable in the right red hole. To measure voltage (be sure to select wether you want AC or DC), you'll check between two points. Same thing with resistance. Amperage, is measured differently. To measure amperage, you'll need to break a point in your circuit, connect your ammeter between those points, then turn the circuit power on. Be sure to read your manual for full instructions and for limitations on you mA side. That meter will function for basic purposes, but if you're going to be using it heavily, I think you should invest in a more expensive meter. I'll find one and give you a link.
it's no problem. we all have to start somewhere. your manual is always the best place to look when you get something new. as for more help, lurk in the electronics sectiona nd you're bound to learn more. good luck with whatever you're trying to undertake.
in my post i did ask him to identify the multimeter but i used bold to make sure he saw the link i gave him there. i also wanted him to read what i wrote so he knows why we cant automatically help him. i was trying to help him. by no means did it have anything to do with anyone else. I just wanted to make sure he got that link. its very useful
