heres a tough one, hehe, ive been working on it for a few weeks now and still cant come up with anything, thought i'd post here

im wanting to disable the function keys during boot (how you would normally depress F5 to bring up the list of different OS boot options, etc)

does anyone know what file to even start with? as in what file this data is stored in?
as well as maybe how i would go about doing this, heh :S

note that this is for Win NT based OS (XP and 2000) not 95/98 as ive figured that one out (winboot.ini w00t)

any help at all would be appreciated.

Hmm... I think that's a group policy option...

/me opens mmc, adds in snap-in and takes a look-see.

    Nope, afraid not. :duh:

Have you tried changing the timeout in boot.ini to 0? I'm not sure what that actually does without rebooting - and I don't want to.

Back fill all the function keys with hot glue ?

Perhaps somethign with command.com, as Windwos NTx only uses that when booting, but once inside Widnwos does it use it still ? I forget now. I guess so, since it's in the system32 directory.

I'd have a look in ntldr, but I can't find anythign to be able to open it up and alter it.

And setting the timeout to zero would effectively disable the F8, but I believe F5 would still work.

Meh. I looked around but couldn't find anything.
