maybe I made fast food too appealing and people lost control! (like when Homer became a food critic "Nine thumbs up what the the hell is that?)... but you're still not learnin' what I'm teachin' you have to sue somebody who's got dosh! .... turnip blood anyone?....
Oh god, they way that guy is voiced and the epmhasis on 'hell' is just perfection. Has me in fits of giggles.
That and "you made them cancel Platypus man.. that had endless possibilities!" one of the "best scenes ever"... /end thread topic hijack........now
What is it with Americans and lawsuits? From a cynical British perspective I'd say its because... a) Americans think very highly of themselves. b) Its easier to put the blame on someone else rather than lose face and admit the truth that was your own goddamn fault. Rather worryingly this is the attitude of kids... and these people have thousands of nukes? ... me ducks...
Hmm speaking of sueing, I think a collective of the bit-tech forum users should sue the users of "Jade AVs" (mainly -chrix- and Dr_kazza), the pain and suffering your av's cause on a daily basis to a lot of us should get you tried in the Hauge for crimes against humanity
That sh!t really ***** me off so badly. Did anyone read about the mom in the US that was / is suing Sony Playstation because her son dropped out of college, quit his part-time job and does nothing but play games all the time? How &^$&%*&^*%**£**&""*& pathetic can you get ffs.
I don't know how it is in the rest of the world, but here in the "good old U S of A" people have abandoned moral thinking and have decided to involve themselves in whatever they please, very few of these people take responsibility for their own actions. I'm quite worried about raising a kid in this time period, because I'm going to hold them responsible for their actions, while everyone else gets to blame it on someone else and profit from it. the US seems to be fleeing from their roots, but I must say I'm still glad to be an American. (I guess I'd be moving if I wasn't happy here, so that's kind of obvious) But reguardless where I'm happy living, it is still quite apparent that the US is leading in people who don't take responsibility, and the world as a whole is overflowing with morons (some of which are obese)
there was actually more to the coffee incident than was reported. The staff had been boiling the coffee to a temp that was over the health and safety regulations said to boil it too. so la de da
Four words "too many damn lawyers"... faster than you can say "ambulance chaser" they begin to whisper into these people's ears about huge payoffs because corporations would rather settle than go through the bad PR. Now that enough people have been paid off, they come running to the lawyers. Discraceful. IMHO the single worst problem in the US is people covet thier neighbors too much and ask "why don't I have all this neat stuff too... it must be someone elses fault." The second worse problem IMHO is the press is so lazy they don't follow up a year or so later with these people. Diamonds to doughnuts they have pi*sed the money away because of the type of people they are.
That probably wouldn't have been much of an issue other than the fact the woman that got burnt had put the damn coffee cup between her legs as she was driving away from the Drive-Thru... I'm sorry but pure stupidity on her part there. Hot Coffee + Legs = Burnt Legs. /me starts handing out free common sense.
That's the problem with common sense. In a lot of cases, it' aint that common. I was reading the other day about the American guy who had just bought a new Winabago. He was driving down the highway, and put the cruise control on. He then preceded to go in the back and made himself a cup of coffee. Of course, in the meantime the 'Bago wandered off the balck stuff, and turned over. Aparently he succesfully sued Winabago to the tune of $1.5m because it hadn't stated in the manual that the cruise control didn't drive the vehical for you. I don't know how much of this is urban legend, but it's pretty damn funny , and in the american claim culture all to easy to believe.
I could easily go through law suits of the UK and pick out some law suits that are just as ridiculous. Just because you guys aren't the center of attention in the world doesn't mean you don't have your idiots also.
Repress - why are you taking this to heart? This is not a USA beating thread. It was started by one of your fellow countrymen. I qualifyed my post by saying "I didn't know how much of it was Urban Legend", but you can't deny that in the States claims of this nature are more prevelent, making it easy to believe the story could be true.
Oh I understand completely that it is just a kind of funny post. I just got annoyed by the remarks about our law system and how blind everyone is to their own. They act like this kind of stuff only happens in the US when it happens everywhere.
Read this article from Dave Barry today and made me laugh and reminded me of this thread... proves everything prior on this issue... Here's a snippet: "The typical consumer's reaction to these warnings is: ``What kind of moron would do THAT?'' The correct answer to this question is: ''A wealthy moron.'' Because the reason these warnings exist is that somewhere, some time, some consumer with the IQ of a radish actually DID one of these bizarre things, and got a lawyer, and sued, and a jury made up of people whose understanding of economics is based entirely on grocery coupons decided, what the heck, $300 million sounds about right, but let's not tell the judge right away because first we should order a pizza. So every year there are more huge product-liability awards, and every year manufacturers have to put more warnings in the owners' manuals, and every year the radish-brains come up with newer, more innovative ways to injure themselves. There will come a day when every product you buy will come with an actual living lawyer inside the box, sealed in plastic; as soon as you break the seal, the lawyer will emerge and start preparing your product-liability lawsuit. (This system is feasible because product-liability lawyers are spore-based organisms who can survive for years without air.)" and this year's Bit-Tech thread resurection award goes to eddie_dane for "Here's another reason..." /me wipes away a tear and thanks the little people....
I particuarly like the idea of lawyers being spore base organisms.... It explains sooo much! Class post, eddie!
