This build will be a bit special, since it will be the first build in many years where I use air cooled graphic cards. The reason for this, is that this will be a show build, build for ASUS, to show off some new graphic cards and motherboards. If you are located in the UK, you will be able to see it in person at Insomnia! So naturally I have teamed up with ASUS and Corsair, and should be receiving a bunch of hardware to throw into this real soon. As this will be a show-rig the graphic cards will keep their direct CU III cooler, and I am still thinking about what cooler to use for the cpu. Components: TBA For this project, I took a standard R40 case, and threw away most of the panels Front panel has been redone with the ROG logo Top and bottom outer aluminium panels has been redone with new ventilation holes, and will have a STRIX logo engraved into them Both side panels has been laser engraved Luckily this is super easy to do, as every panel is just flat sheets. As mentioned, the entire front has been redone, and cut with the ROG logo, and the standard white accent pack has been swapped for a red frosted accent pack. Still thinking about how I will light the front panel up. But when done, it should look somewhat like this. Engraved side panel. Took roughly 1 hour in the laser! A view of the top panel with the new ventilation holes to better match the theme. Really like this frosted red accent pack! The engraved side panels matches quite nicely with the aluminium profiles. Since the graphic cards will not be watercooled, I am putting two fans in the bottom, and have cut the panels so they will cover up the fan motor, and the 4 plastic connectors holding this. Hopefully I have measured correctly Rear panels are about the only thing kept stock. Another top view. This panel is being engraved with the strix logo soon! And lastly just a few images of the engraved side panel. I think I spent more than 6 hours drawing this pattern, and making it align Hardware should be in soon!
Thanks! I am also really happy with how it turned out Haha I think I would be reluctant to tattoo anything on my body, especially brands Thanks Complx! I also think it have turned out quite nice Got a little something for this build. While I am waiting for the other hardware to arrive, so I can start cabling, lets start off with the graphic cards that will go into this thing. STRIX! 980 ti strix to be exact! And two of them. A box within a box? What is this madness! A box, within a box, within a box? That is some serious boxeption... Finally! A graphic card! These are the first cards from which ASUS is using the fully automatic PCB thingy that I cant remember what is called. Basicly the PCB should be neater than on other cards. So big.. So heavy... Guess that is the price you have to pay if you want proper cooling, and do not want to go the water cooling route. Even though these two will be sitting with no slot spacing, they will do fine under full load temperature wise. Also got a little ROG SLI bridge. Really a big fan of these after market SLI bridges instead of just an ugly stock bridge. Just a shame many of them are so hard to get your hands on -_- As mentioned before, they will sit like this in the machine. I would have liked to put them with 1 slot in between as the case has plenty of room for that, but the motherboard that I am going to use sadly does not support that Compared to a reference 980 ti, these puppies are HUGE! Just messing around with the black backdrop. Still need to get better at taking pics with the black backdrop. Taking pictures on a white backdrop is quite easy compared -_- Thanks for watching, and a huge thanks to ASUS for sending these monsters!
"Haha I think I would be reluctant to tattoo anything on my body, especially brands" : Nice thing to say to a bloke who show you his tatoo...Ah! Maybe you were talking "Ex cathedra"...
and I thought the titans were a big fat pig of a card! @ jojoharalds -This sets a nasty precedent for people with sponsors.
The size difference between these, and the reference cards are really insane. I think you need to have one in your hand to truly understand it Got the motherboard for this build, and I must say that I really, really like the new way ASUS has gone with their ROG brand with red being more of a subtle highlight feature on the boards instead of being the main color! All I want for christmas is a X99 version of this board Pretty standard packaging if you have ever had one of the ROG boards in hand. I´ve previously mentioned that the graphic cards are going to sit flush against each other which is because there is no third slot on the gene board, and the two there is is fixed with one slot spacing. Oh well, the cards will do fine anyway! In all its glory! The new LGA 1151 socket. Getting the hang of the lighting on black backgrounds! with the cards installed. Will be fun to get this mounted in the case!
Eugene gets his name on everything. Does this mean we'll finally see someone build a ROG rig that isn't red?
Did you see the case pictures And who the hell is Eugene It will be red, but not totally red. Same goes for the sleeving. For this build I am using a combination of grey/black & red/black sleeving. This was again chosen to not "overdo" the red. How do you guys like this combo?
My guess is one of them is from Italiy TIME TO BRING OUT THE VOTEBRIGADE AND UPVOTE THIS MOD TO ITS TRUE RATING!
I belive that is kind of an achievement is it not? Hah thanks man! Although I get a feeling that the star rating system is only used for two things nowadays. Either giving 1 star, or giving 5 stars because someone gave 1 star
