Need some advice/pointers, 'cos search engines are flippin' useless these days.

I have a pair of these sat on my desk - Presonus Eris 5 studio monitors:

I need to use the balanced XLR or TRRS connection on these speakers, I get too much electrical noise on unbalanced outputs (don't ask... I've been trying to track down the source for years, and at this point I'm just going to put it down to shoddy wiring).

I had an audio interface (Vocaster One) which handled the speakers just fine, but that had to work pretty hard to drive my 250 ohm Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro's. In any case, I no longer have that audio interface.

I need some kind of USB DAC that'll act as both a headphone amp and balanced speaker output. These are powered monitors, so they don't really need any kind of amplification, but obviously my headphones will. It has to be a digital or balanced signal into this "device"; if unbalanced connections are introduced anywhere in the chain, I will get electrical noise.

The only thing I know that will do this job is an audio interface, but I don't want to go down that road again - I don't need that kind of setup. A monitor controller would work, but that still takes me back into the realms of "studio gear" and I still need something that has a USB DAC.

I also do not want to spend an absolute fortune, and all my searching for "non studio" kit so far is turning up devices that are £400+, £500+, etc.

So. Anyone have any pointers, before I resign myself to going back to audio interfaces?

Yeah, that’s the kind of thing I’d want, but ideally I don’t want to spend more than ~£200. And I think I’m not going to find what I’m looking for at that price…

But that’s not enough pins, is it? Doesn’t a balanced signal need 3 pins per channel? You might be able to get away with a common ground, but that still takes it to 5 pins (L+, L-, R+, R-, GND).

    Unless I’m mistaken, of course.
