Hi guys, am very new to modding and am looking for a small project to get started what is the best thing to start off on!!! any suggestions.
You could start by showing us a picture of the case you want to mod, then we can make better suggestions First off I'd start with the basics: cut a side window, add a cold cathode light inside, perhaps stealth your optical drives. -Sam
i agree with the window or stealth mods. another good project is cable organizing. cheap, easy, and you don't have to worry about destroying anything.
I'd say the first and easiest thing to do is to stealth your drives. Take the blank face plate from your case and cut off the parts sticking out, so its flat, then stick some velcro (or double sided tape, etc) on it and stick it to your drive, and your done
as a n00b modder myself I advice you to do the simple stuff first, cable management is one, then perhaps some lights, perhaps a fancontroller to silence your fans; think grabbing a dremel and make a window isn't such a good idea for a starting modder, first you should get used to the case, learn all it's ins and outs. you could makesome sketches and make a huge 'to do' list like I'm doing, you get the kick of the mdoding a little and you learn a lot of things without screwing up your case permanently =) mod on
Yup, I agree... start with simple stuff first.. I fuggled over the plexi part of a case cause I never read any howtos before I did it... also, having the right tools helps a LOT. I as well suggest cable management. It will improve airflow, which lowers cpus temp, which in turn will prolong system stablility and life. Then go for some stealthed drives... they always look cool. and then maybe led fans and what not.. or maybe a fanbus/reohbus... maybe a paint job... not sure if a paint job first or window is best... read up on some other articles for how tos... check out linears site... he has an AWESOME article there.
The first thing I did was cut out two 120mm holes in my side panel and mount fans/filters in there. My next mod will probably be 7-volting the fans - Cutting holes in your case is pretty easy, but it's good to get an idea of how you want to set up your airflow. Obviously I wanted lots of it.
Hey every one seen my case yeah?? so do you mind if i also ask here what els i can do please here are some nice clear shots of the case well on i think lol. Thanks
Well, that side panel isn't very modder-friendly. How about a blow-hole? I'm sure there are some project threads around that show you how to make a good stealthed blow-hole. Stealthing your drives would still be a good learning experience, although you'd only notice them when your door was open. And you can always add lighting.
here's an idea to challenge you kids who need ideas. try to hide as much of your cables as possible. cut holes in your mobo mounting plate, turn hard drives around, whatever. make them invisible. paint the inside of your case for good contrast. black outside/black inside, UV lighting, reactive green components. ain't nothin' but the glow of your cables and fans. use mirrors inside your case for some neat lighting effects. try to get a clear/mirror finish on the inside of your window and a normal mirror finish inside. look in, see infinite images of yourself and computer. or if you have a cube case, a mirror mounted at 45 degrees that hides your components will make the case look completely empty. a toilet. vga/ps2/usb extension cables. masonry bits/blades. wheels. get a small table and you'll never need to find a chair at the lan.
as a new modder and jus starting on my case at the weekend i would say these things: 1: window 2: cable management 3: lighting 4: cooling 5: stealthing 6: make it orginal there are loads of things to do.. look around the forums and get ideas. here my case so far:
Thanks guys will take all your advice, and watch this space when i decide what to do i will upload some pictures ok
