Hi guys, I’m looking for a high performance hard drive (not to fussed about size). I see there is Sata 150 and 300. 8mb/16mb cache. 7200/10,000 rpm. I’m looking for a really good hard drive that compliments the other components I’m buying or bought (best I can buy attitude). So what would you suggest for a good quality HD. Do I go 10krpm with 8mb cache or 7,200rpm with 16 mb cache or is there a drive that has them all. Budget on this I guess anything from 70 pounds to 150 pounds give or take. Size isn’t mega important I guess as long as its above 50 gig, id just like performace rather than size. This computer is just aimed at games nothing else Any light on this subject would be most welcome Thanks for any reply’s
If you are looking for ultimate desktop performance, Western Digital have recently launched their 150GB Raptor. It's pricey, but you won't find better speed aimed at the desktop. If that's out of budget, they are soon to launch an improved single-platter version of the current 74GB model which will be quieter and faster as well as fitting more snugly into your budget
Definitely a drive worth holding out for, I'll be ditching my SCSI setup for a couple once they hit the market. All of the speed of the 150GB but in a sensible size (150GB isnt large by any stretch of the imagination, but you shouldnt be storing things on a raptor, just OS and applications)
Dont suppose you know how long till these are avalible to buy do you. are we talking months, weeks or days. thanks for the replys
