need some help. i have my 80gb hdd, on it is my install of WinXP Professional. On that is my documents and settings folder. My profile was password protected, hence all my files are inaccessible when the hard drive is slaved. I have 30gb of stuff on there that i *really* need to access. Everything i have ever written, taken a photo of, listened to, or watched, is in there. The stupid thing won't boot when i use a diff mobo, and my other mobo is off on an RMA. Microsoft are of no help to me, but if any1 wants to contact them and pretend its their own problem and see what they say, go for it. If anyone has any idea how to access the files, i woudl greatly appreciate...you have no idea how greatly. heaps. heaps and heaps and heaps. Thankyou in advance to anyone who can give me a hand with this.
You should make the problem clearer, it took me about four reads to understand what the hell you're talking about... Sounds like you just need to wait for a new MoBo after RMA...
i just can't acces the file i cannot explain it different like mentioned above my english isnt good you know i let a friend transleted the message above
i'm guessing its NTFS, encrypted, in which case, you're not gonna get to your documents. the whole idea of encryption is that you can't get to em. you should have kept backups.
you're right but i really need to access the files i know i schould have make backups but i was to stupid to think about this
if you can get access to the drive in another machine, try using partion magic or similar to convert the drive to fat32, this might solve the problem as it will remove all the file permissions from the drive, or try and find an NTFS encryption cracker
i'd clone the drive first - partition magic has screwed me over many times. alternatively, just wait for the new mobo!
one of the many reasons I hate using NTFS for personal use.. If you can't wait, then the real only option is to change the SID of that windows install (real pain to do) or convert back to fat32 with some 3rd party program like batsman described.. good luck -scoob8000
