Hi everyone, well I just inherited this hifi unit totally for free. *bonus* Tried them out and they are loud with loads of bass. Well, I have no use really for this as I'm building a media pc. But can I connect these speakers to my via epia 800 mini itx mobo? They are just 2 bare wires (can't describe exactly) 1 black, 1 black/white. With bare ends that are pushed into the back of the unit. Can I use these some how?
you have just been given one , on the 1ft box down (under the turntable in the pic) on the back of that there might be 2 phono connectors for line in, if you attach the epia to this (with a 3.5mm stereojack to 2 phopno cable) then u will use the auxillary on that amp to drive them. Col
well I'll rip it open and see. The 2 wires on each speaker go into these little holes, which are locked in with little clips. There is also 2 things for red and white plugs. (audio)
yea thats the ones does it say line in anywhere near them, if so u just need the cablke and your all set Col
ok I've ripped out the amp. Such a messy process. Um. I don't know how and if it could work. 11 wires went to the psu. 8 wires went to the input thing or volume 3 wires in a sleve went to the radio board. Anyone got any idea if I can get this to work I think I just wrecked a working hifi unit. Carp. picture in a minute.
I do not think pulling the amplifier stage out was such a good idea. It would have worked fine before you hacked it apart, all you needed was a low level signal simple cable from motherboard to the back of the unit and all would have been great, but now you are going to have serious problems. It was an integrated unit so this means the "pre amp stage" with volume controll, "amplifier stage" and power supply were integrated together, you can't use one without the others so you are pritty much stuck. Next time it may be wise to ask a few people who know about HIFI equipment before ruining your hardware.
with some luck you may be able to put the amp bit back in if you havent done any damage to the bits inside or the wiring
lol, micb dont be mean, ripping things apart is fun. + it didnt look like the most valuable hifi in the world so not to much harm done
well if you get another stereo with a turntable on the top and it doesnt have line in you can use the turntable input if you get what i mean. but you cant use the turntable but makes a handy line in
not quite so, the turntable uses a phono connector, this is very very low level and so it will probably have a preamp stage inside the amp, there will probably be another connector by the phono in for a ground wire from the turntable to prevent ground loops (that humm) Col
Hmmm... Have the bin men taken the speakers as well? I'm thinking that you could hook them up to a £49 Maplin amp, as you ruined that other one, get the line input from your sound card, use an aux cable from the card to the amp. Wire the amp to the speakers, routing it through a 1 way crossover, (I assume you just want the bass) and hook that upto the woofer input of the speaker.
I still have the speakers, but I don't have anything planned for them at the moment, as I am saving/selling stuff to raise money for a moped, I have like 29 days till my birthday, so I'm not spending a single penny untill then. Although I just shelled out £35 for a provisional It's expensive
