Like heavy said that metal looks awsome just put clear coat or somthin over it to stop from rusting and scratchs and be done with it. Rly like the idea especially with high gas prices now since gas cans are 2 expensive to fill so we need another reason to have them and you gave me one.
you and your shiny! The project is looking good. I dig the originality behind it, and too bad you're going for another look other than the polished look. the metal on that can looks awesome! Anyway, good luck with the project and keep us updated! subscribed!
Nice Like it in metal more than red. Toi keep it in that crome like apearence, make sure you lacquer it! Keep up the good work mate.
dont use lacquer! I did that on a similar project, and it turned the metal weird colors and patterns. Use some clearcoat to keep the rust away
Love the look now. I can just imagine how awesome it's going to look in high pollished form. KEEP GOING! DON"T STOP!
sorry that it's taken so long i've been very busy with work, work around the house, and xmas stuff. so i haven't had much free time i have got some new pics that i will post as soon as i can get a few more extra minutes.
While sanding out on my porch I got a visit from a cute little praying mantis. I guess someone approves of the idea. Looking much better starting to get that chrome like apperance with some spots of the mirror like showing through So after a lot of putting it off I finally just got down to business and finished up most of the sanding here are some pictures of it. And after about an hour I got this image looking pretty good if you ask me but not there just yet. And a couple shots from the out come of this session of sanding. As you can see it’s looking pretty good overall the mirror like shine is coming out but the texture is a pain to work through. Over all the sanding takes a lot of work as you can’t do it for to long or it will heat up the metal and start to discolor it and then you have to let it cool back off and come back and take off the discoloration.
Wow, you have to incorporate that somehow! Maybe name the case Praying Mantis, or put an image/engraving somewhere. This project is very original, loving it
Just you Really nice idea, never seen that before whether or not it's been done. That polishing is just crazy.... I could never motivate myself to polish something that big (best I've done was a small bit of a floppy drive for kicks, which wasn't that great anyways)
Update finally 03.12.05 So the final sanding session, pretty much went from 400 to 600 to 1200 grit to take it down to a nice clean smooth surface. so after about 5 hours of sanding it finally comes out pretty sweet a few spots still have to be hand sanded down to a nice shine but the bulk is done. heres a few pics. Over all other than the detail work in some of the parts i couldn't get the sander into the sanding is pretty much complete. next i'll start actualy putting the computer in there.
Wowee, I really do like this, and it'll definatly look better than the one that has been done before, that just looks plasticacy. Keep up the good work and with that amount of metal and the curves, make sure nothing shorts!
Awesome polish job on that old gas can! And extra points for originality on your case choice Will definetly keep an eye on this to see how things progress. Mod on
