HI, I have 6, turbo cool crystal fans with leds and two 12" neon lights in my case, and have a 550w PSU running it. Is this too much for the PSU to run of also along with all the other components?
If it's a real 550w PSU than no. If it's a POS Qtec that a bunch of people on these boards got suckered into buying before realizing that they sucked/failed spectacularly, then probably not.
The Q-Tec should be fine - keep an eye on voltages fluctuating tho - mine do a little. The Q-Tecs really arent as bad as everyone says they are - but with the price of better specced PSUs coming down u should go out and get a new one, which is exactly what ima gonna do soon.
id agree the q-tec psu aren't bad, they are just very misleading with their figures. the 550w q-tec can give out less current than for example a Antec Truepower 430W. Basically, if the q-tec were to give out 550w it would probably fail; think of it more as a 400w psu! That said, you will probably be okay - im guessing the lights and fans will use at most about 50W (4A on the 12V rail); this is a high estimate as well. If you only have 1\2 opticals, 1 hdd and not a top-range video card you will probably be okay. If you have lots of hdd\optical drives and a hi-spec system I would consider selling your PSU and buying a 'better' branded one just to be sure. edit: just seen your specs in the sig, and I would imagine you would be ok for now, but if you plan on upgrading you GFX or getting more hdd etc. the psu may become an issue!
My QTec used to happily power all sorts of bells and whistles in my case. Never had any serious probs with it. Just got a new 480w Tagan tho, and u CAN see the difference a good PSU makes. At only £65 its a steal - stick one on the shopping list for next time u wanna upgrade, but ull be fine with the QTec for the moment.
