The Washington post claims to have gotten their hands on full transcripts of Trumps calls with Mexico and Australia.

Both of the calls can be summed up the same way:

Trump: "I have no control over how the public perceives my actions and its up to you to make me look good".

Yea, they don't paint a very good picture, the calls seem to reinforce what i guess most people were already thinking, that he has a tenuous grasp on facts and cares more about what others think of him than anything in the whole world, in a way i almost feel sorry for him.

I was thinking about that last night and came to the conclusion that Trump going to war with NK before his term is out is probably a given, not only because of his rhetoric but there's also how much of his staff are retired generals and wall street financiers, how he want's to be seen as a strong and decisive leader, and how he's probably been emboldened by the recent majority vote to increase sanctions against NK.

I just hope our politicians aren't stupid enough to join in this time.

China have very little influence over NK or Trump and the fact that they agreed to increased sanctions seems to indicate they're willing to cut NK loose if it means maintaining relations with America and the rest of the world.

    Greetings!

Dont think China will be happy having 3-4 USA supercarriers parked just next to them. Or having its borders swarmed by fleeing NKoreans.

They'll probably see that as the lesser of many other evils, chiefly among which is the possibility of NK initiating an attack (either conventional or nuclear) because of sabre rattling from Trump and them (China) getting the blame.

They almost always agree to the sanctions [as do Russia], often begrudgingly, the problem is they very rarely enforce those sanctions, and often use... creative... accounting to make it look like they're enforcing the sanctions when they aren't.

I thought China normally opposed sanctions.

They normally kick up a fuss in an attempt to get them watered down to a meaningless level, quietly agree, and then don't actually enforce them.

In any case, wouldn't want to be living in Guam right about now.

So in other words they normally oppose them. :)

It's only been in the last couple of years that China's patience with NK has worn thin, previously they opposed sanctions because they were concerned they would lead to the regime failing however in the last couple of years i think its dawned on China that the NK regime is going to fail one way or another and they just don't want to be caught in the cross hairs.

China is basically faced with either supporting the sanctions and in turn risking a humanitarian crisis and collapse of the regime or not supporting them and running the risk that ol' kimi boy or Trump will start a war.
