It was a response to your previous post, which was not about ability. I'm not sure what you want though, a voter doesn't need to be smart to pick a candidate they agree or identify with. The required ability to do so is low and they have a right to have a say in the country they are a citizen of.

What I want is an electorate that is intellectually capable of formulating rational views on what makes a functional society, what policies would be effective in working towards that and which politicians are likely and able to pursue and implement those policies.

Democracy is not the X-factor. It's not just a matter of picking politicians because they can sing a catchy tune.

Actually it is. It's just your favourite catchy tune is different to that of others. A politician is little more than a manifesto and a few public appearances.

That is not what it should be if you want a functional society.

It is what it is and it is still better than the alternatives.

What it is, is a system that does not produce functional outcomes. It may be better than the alternative ls but let's not pretend that makes it any good.

Yes I did put politicians and people in two seperate groups

Society is not a plane and politicians/people aren't pilots and a stick is not a political strategy.

    Edit: Damn it Nexxo.

It is possible to derail aspects of society or make it one in which someone or a group of people are not comfortable being or participating. But if that is what the majority (more or less) of people choose in their politicians and therefore their society then so be it. Even with that, it is still better than the alternatives.

And when Trump promised jobs people simply ignored the rest of what he said as the usual meaningless ramblings of a politician.

    Could it be that simple?

Of course they may not really get what they bargained for, after all Mao technically created millions of jobs as well when he artificially boosted steel production.

Replace low quality lumps of pig iron with debt fuelled growth and you pretty much got Trump.

It's what happens when you listen and elect demagogues, you'd think we learned from history but apparently not.

That genuinely is one of the most awful and annoying songs I've ever heard.
