That's what happens in a post truth society, politicians start throwing sh*t and while some attempts are made to combat the sh*t with real facts things soon descend into who can throw the most sh*t.

EDIT: Something totally unrelated to ^^what i said^^

Should be interesting to see if Mr Trump makes any attempt to distance himself from such groups.

Looks like Donald's stuck two fingers up at Theresa and recommended we make Farage our ambassador.

The death of TPP and TTIP is long overdue.

We could always pass the Farage ball no one wants any more to France once Le Pen takes over:hehe:

I thought the idea of cheaper and better goods was what most people wanted.

    Depends on the price.

Companies dragging governments through kangaroo courts and the commercialisation of the NHS is a damn steep price.

Theresa is handling this one badly. Doesn't bode well for future EU negotiations if she can't get a very small matter solved.

@Anfield, Don't forget the jobs, although isn't that the whole point of liberal economics?
If something can be made cheaper somewhere else then consequences be damned.

Not sure what she could do differently. Foreign state leaders do not get to pick and choose Britain's ambassadors. There would be massive conflict of interest issues for starters. Trump is obviously new at this game, but that doesn't mean the rules don't count for him. They are there for a reason.

@Corky42 The problem with the jobs is complex, because you also have to take automation into account, does it really matter if someone at the other end of the world or a robot close to you takes your job?
Yes, with the robot you have a theoretical chance getting a job maintaining it, but that obviously doesn't apply to everyone, besides, how long until we automate that maintenance as well?

Just as a scary reference how we've already come in that regard:

Point being, in the long run society will have to prepare for a post work world and how that is going to pan out, well frankly I don't have a clue.

That is a paradigm shift most people in a basically puritanical Western society are simply not able to make.

It would come down to everybody getting a universal income for all that would cover the necessities of a reasonable living, with everybody having the option to top it up with work earnings if they so choose. How working people will see it is that other people will enjoy an income they did not 'earn' (even if they are doing the same). Puritanism rules OK.

This was certainly the outcome of a referendum that was held in Switzerland on the issue.

It would be called having a universal basic income, a basic income guarantee, or paying people not to work, something we arguably already have in the form of social security, although given peoples distaste for our current social security system i can't see anything like that happening soon, especially when it's such a socialist idea.

Ninja edit: Damn Nexxo beat me to it. ;)

I have to agree with Nexxo, I simply don't see a way for a society as a whole to get through a paradigm shift of that proportion.

The more efficient the system makes itself the more it discards of humanity.

It looks like the Clinton foundation isn't the only rotten apple.
And so much for fighting corruption.
Should we be chanting lock him up, lock him up about now. ;)

I just read that Trump has softened his view on climate changes and admitted it MAY have connections with human activity. Next week he will admit that trees may have some connections with air quality...
