Windows HL2 Crashing to Windows...booooo

Well, I got my copy of HL2 4days ago and installed it today.
Yay for me?

Anyways, I start the game, listen to G-Man, get off the train and....Windows XP Pro desktop, WTF?

The game crashes to my desktop every few minutes....WHY??
Since I'm on my second rig, it's 1024X768 and all details as were (the ones with the * next to them)
Yes, I've tried tinkering with the Video Options, to no effect.

The rig:
Antec Aria SFF case
P4 2.4 Prescott (not OC'd, stock cooling)
ASUS P4-R800-VM mATX (ATi Radeon 9100IGP)
2X512MB Geil PC3200
Sapphire 9800PRO flashed to XT with stock cooling (Cats 4.11)
Win XP PRO (DX 9.0C)

All the panels are taken off the case, and I've got 4 80MM fans blowing air into the case (2 on each side)

I would try some different drivers. The omega drivers sort out a lot of problems with the standard Cats.

Get them here

If not, see if there are any patches around

 

i had a similar problem with doom3 where it would just crash now and again so i installed xp pro (upgrade from 2k)....

i also had a problem with rome: total war, to solve that i got rid of ati control panel and just installed the normal driver....

 

I installed the Cats 4.11 without the ATi CP, but without success.

Omega's are being downloaded as we speak.

try the steam update that verifies all you cached hl2 files for errors

 

Problem solved!!

I simply moved both my stick of ram to other slots.
